On World Environment Day, it is disheartening to see that while many Western countries engage in emissions reduction discussions, they continue to use other regions as "backyard dumpsters," violating the 2021 UN agreement on plastic waste trade. For instance, the US exports significant quantities of waste to Latin America, turning countries in the region into dumping grounds. Between 2020 and 2021, over 200,000 tons of plastic waste were shipped from the US to Latin America and the Caribbean, posing a significant danger to the local population.
The netherlands, Canada, Germany, Australia, Belgium, and the UK, also contribute to this issue by sending their garbage to countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, and others. This escalating trend of waste exports poses severe and lasting harm to people and the environment in countries lacking proper waste management infrastructure.

Anti-fascists took to the streets of Paris to mark the anniversary of the death of activist Clément Méric, who was killed ten years ago by a group of neo-Nazis. Protesters were seen lighting flares, chanting slogans, and waving anti-fascist flags.
Clément Méric, an 18-year-old anti-fascist activist, was fatally attacked by a group of neo-Nazis in Paris in 2013. His death ignited anti-fascist protests and a discussion about the rise of fascism in Europe.
Méric was actively involved in labor union struggles, such as fundraising for strike funds and anti-fascist activism. His friends described him as an anarchist who “hated the elitist ideology in capitalist society.”
In 2018, Méric’s killers were sentenced to 11 and 7 years in prison. Commenting on the verdict, Méric’s mother argued “What is necessary is to continue the struggle against everything that is a breeding ground for the extreme right.”

Palestinian protesters confronted Israeli forces in the village of Nabi Saleh, after a funeral was held for a toddler killed by Israeli troops. 2-year-old Mohammad Haitham Al-Tamimi died days after being shot by Israeli forces while in his father's car outside the family home.
Al-Tamimi was shot in the head during indiscriminate firing. His father, Haitham Tamimi, who was also wounded, said that the soldiers harass locals daily, “I live near the military watchtower that overlooks Nabi Saleh village. Everyday, I see the [soldiers] in the watchtower harassing the locals. Due to their fear and thirst for blood, they regarded us [my son and I] as a threat to them.”
With the murder of Al-Tamimi, the number of Palestinian children killed by Israeli troops so far this year has risen to 28, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Kenyan police arrested at least 11 people at protests against the devastating cost-of-living crisis and new tax reforms at the expense of the working class. The protests were met with tear gas fired by the police, while protesters held signs with messages such as "Poverty is man-made" and "Colonialism never ended."
The Communist Party of Kenya (CPK) said it stands "shoulder to shoulder" with the protests against the Finance Bill, calling it "an attack on the poor" which will "hit the vulnerable hardest." The CPK accused President William Ruto on Twitter of "declaring war with the people" following police violence against the protests.
In May, Kenya witnessed a rise in inflation to 8 percent, according to the government's statistics office. The country was rocked by massive anti-government and anti-crisis protests in March, April and May with Amnesty International reporting that 12 protesters were killed.

Did you know that Saudi Arabia once had an influential Communist movement? Born in the early 30s among migrant and Saudi workers in the country's booming oil industry, the movement became instrumental in forming the country's first organized labor movement. Faced with increased state persecution, the communist movement became more militant in the 1970s, and with the momentum produced by the Iranian Revolution in 1979, it played a key role in organizing the Muharram Uprising against the Saudi Monarchy.
