⚛️ You've heard of DeFi, but what about DeSci? Decentralized Science is a movement using web3 to solve the biggest problems in research: funding and access
🧬 Traditional science funding is slow, centralized, and conservative. Breakthrough ideas often die in committee reviews or grant applications.
🔭 So how can crypto help?
Here are a few key mechanisms:
🔬 Quadratic Funding (QF): A democratic way to fund public goods. Small donations are matched by a pool, meaning broad community support is valued more than a few large whales. This is huge for niche or early-stage research!
🗳 Conviction Voting: Instead of fixed grant rounds, communities can continuously signal support (and funding) to projects they believe in. This allows for more agile and responsive funding.
♻️ Convertible Grants: that can convert into equity or coins if a project succeeds. This creates a sustainable funding cycle where successful projects give back to the community treasury, funding the next generation of research.
These tools put power back in the hands of researchers and the community, enabling faster, more innovative, and more collaborative science.
