Tw: dead bodies & blood

This is "Andromache" by Rochegrosse and it shows the moment where Andromache is violently torn away from her child Astyanax at the end of the Trojan War. Odysseus is watching the scene from the top of the stairs, waiting for the child to throw it from the ramparts of Troy.

Ophelia

But long it could not be
Till that her garments, heavy with their drink,
Pull’d the poor wretch from her melodious lay
To muddy death.

The Sleep of Endymion by Anne Louis Girodet de Roussy (1791)

This painting is about the myth of Endymion, a young shepherd whose beauty caught the eye of Selene (Latin- Luna), Greek chaste virgin goddess of the moon. She was so smitten, she requested that Zeus grant him eternal youth and to keep him in eternal sleep. Typically the myth is depicted with the gods present in the image. Girodet’s rendition features only Endymion asleep, being caressed by the moonlight of Selene. The light reaches Endymion with the help of Zephyr, personification of the west wind, seen here moving branches to allow Selene’s light to reach Endymion. Endymion’s figure shows features of the popular female nude figure of the era with male anatomy. Because of this, many perceive the masterpiece to suggest queer elements.
