angry political rant I'm thinking about the phrase "gefühlte Inflation" ("perceived inflation"), and I'm completely furious.

The phrase suggests that the conventional metric of the inflation rate, which considers goods of everyday living as well as luxury goods and long-term investments, is objective and true and perfect.
It makes up a world where the cost of living is determined by the price of a Weber gas grill, of a MacBook pro, the cost of reupholstering your sports car's seats with goat leather, just as much as the cost of a year's worth of bread.

Even then, the German Wikipedia section on this is way worse than I thought. "Modern behavioral economics describes the phenomenon as cognitive distortion, more specifically, as confirmation bias."

The economic pundit class is downright gaslighting the people. Telling a working person who's been eating worse, eating less, staying at home because they can't afford to pay for trips, "But that's just, like, your __feelings__, man."

Because the person ahead of them on the Autobahn has a new gas grill in their trunk, and it barely cost them more than it would've a few years ago.

A display of unbridled contempt for the people.

If you live in a country where this kind of phrase is used in political/economic discourse, I encourage you to mention this topic to your friends.
