Currently, antimatter is the most expensive substance on Earth, costing about $62.5 trillion per gram of antimatter. Prospects for creating and utilizing antimatter as fuel for spacecraft are examined in a NASA paper.

For comparison, to produce the first atomic weapon, the cost of the Manhattan project was estimated at $23 billion.

The CSS Hunley, built by the Confederate States of America, became in the first combat submarine to sink a warship in 1864 when she sunk the USS Housatonic off the coast of South Carolina.
