Behold... the stinky penis mushroom!
We're not kidding. This stinkhorn species is called Phallus rubicundus, and as you can maybe guess from the collection of flies on the 'tip', it has quite the odor. Our editor - who took this photo - called it an ‘oh god the world is ending’ smell.
These beautiful stinky specimens grow around the world, from southern and eastern United States to Australia!

Nov 11, 1918: Photo taken after the signing of the armistace agreement that ended WWI. The armistace came into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was signed by a German delegation in the railway carriage of French Marshall Foch near the forest of Compiègne. This historic railway carriage was later put in a French musuem. (Interesting fact: When the Nazis invaded France, they pulled this same railway car out of the museum and made the French sign their own surrender documents in it)
