Hot water freezes faster than cold water

This may seem counterintuitive, but it’s called the Mpemba effect. Scientists now believe this is because the velocities of water particles have a specific disposition while they’re hot that allows them to freeze more readily. If proven correct, this finding could also be applied to everyday things, like cooling down electronic devices, according to research out of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

Retail service robots

Giant Food Stores has deployed 172 service robots at its supermarkets.

The task of the bot, named Marty, is to notify customers about promotions and discounts in the store and to warn visitors in case of danger. He also improves in-store navigation and can help a lost child to find parents.

In addition, the bot can collect statistics on the best-selling products and keep track of inventory.
