7’3” Jakob Nacken (221 cm), the tallest German soldier of WW2, has a chat with 5’3” (160 cm) British corporal Bob Roberts after surrendering to him near Calais, France, 1944.
The Treaty of Paris (1783) put an end to the America Revolutionary War and was signed between Great Britain and the US. At the peace conference, the British delegation refused to pose, and the painting was never completed.
