The Soviets were horribly unprepared because they were literally rebuilding after the wombo-combo of Russo Japanese War, then WW1, then the Revolution completely wrecked them (... That and Russia was a backwater either way) — And even then once they got their heads in the game it was curtains for the Nazi's eastern front too.

Actually. One thing I like to say sometimes is that — The Nazis failed in everything they attempted.
There's this narrative that the Nazis were "evil but deviously effective", and some people try to dissuade people from being fascists by pointing out the atrocities the nazis committed. Not realising that if someone has even a sliver of sypmathy for fascism, then in their heart of hearts they find the atrocities aspirational rather than horrible.
But even people who have a cop in their souls can recognise failure for what it is when you point it out
The Nazis wanted an end to all "undesirables". Those undersirables outlived them and buried them. The Nazis wanted to conquer Europe, not only did they not conquer Europe, they got bodied so hard their nation was split in twain. The Nazis wanted to "stop communism", half of their nation ended up under soviet control. Etc. etc. etc.
