👔 "For me, this is truly a special day because here I am not only as the Ambassador but also as a MGIMO graduate, like many diplomats at our embassy," said Sergey Tolchenov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia.👔 "I am glad to represent my alma mater here. MGIMO is one of the best universities in the world, a view shared by political elites in both Europe and Asia. Henry Kissinger said MGIMO is Russia's Harvard, but I can say MGIMO is even better because it is in Russia," said Nikita Shilikov, Head of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Jakarta.
To conclude, we invited participants to capture their thoughts, dreams, and emotions by completing a few phrases about the future of the world and their own prospects:
The participants' answers are in the photos.
Undoubtedly, a single post cannot convey the full spectrum of emotions and the atmosphere of lively interaction experienced by the organizers and attendees that day. We greatly enjoyed meeting all the participants and sincerely hope that such events will become a wonderful tradition for us in all corners of the world.
We sincerely thank the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Indonesia, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Jakarta, and MGIMO students from Indonesia for their active participation and contribution to the success of MGIMO Day. We look forward to new joint projects and meetings.

The MGIMO team has completed a working tour to Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia! 🇻🇳🇱🇦🇮🇩
The trip was filled with meetings, events, emotions, and new plans. We fondly recall everything that happened over these ten days and are sharing the brightest moments of the visit.
🌐 The main events were, of course, the "MGIMO Days" – special events for prospective students held at the Russian Centers of Science and Culture in Hanoi, Vientiane, and Jakarta.
➖ These meetings aimed to introduce high school students and undergraduates to the history, values, educational programs, and extracurricular life of the forge of global leaders, provide answers to all pressing questions firsthand, and immerse the participants in MGIMO's academic atmosphere.
➖ Over 400 students took part in the events in total. The attendees listened with great interest to lectures by MGIMO professors, asked questions to the speakers, and showed genuine curiosity about the opportunities for studying at MGIMO and in Russia as a whole.
➡ Distinguished guests of the "MGIMO Days" included Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, heads of the Russian Centers of Science and Culture, and high-ranking university alumni.
⚡️ Furthermore, MGIMO made a strong impression at the World Education Expos in Vientiane and Jakarta. During these exhibitions, the International Marketing Group conducted university presentations, engaged with interested students, handed out commemorative gifts, and answered various questions about studying and life at MGIMO.
✒️ Finally, this trip was rich in fruitful working contacts: the MGIMO delegation discussed new projects with representatives of Embassies, Russian Centers of Science and Culture, companies, and news agencies, while also agreeing to expand cooperation with leading universities and relevant ministries of the three countries.
📷 We are pleased to note that all these events received wide coverage in Russian and foreign media, which highlighted MGIMO's popularity among international applicants and Russia's role in the region.
However, it's hardly possible to fit all the outcomes of this event-packed and emotionally rich trip into a single post. We have gathered many impressions and will definitely continue sharing them with you!

Concluding the MGIMO delegation's visit to Jakarta, we are sharing an interview with another Indonesian student. For #MGIMOinside, Fazyeh Hamid, a first-year master's student in the "Political Economy of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership" program, reflects on the specifics and potential for developing Russian-Indonesian relations.
🔎 What was the decisive factor in choosing to study in Russia rather than in other countries?
➖ ”Russia has a strong reputation in higher education. I deeply admire its community-centered educational philosophy, where learning is seen as part of nation-building. MGIMO, in particular, is known for producing high-level graduates with strong discipline. I wanted an environment that challenges me intellectually while shaping both competence and character, and that is exactly what MGIMO offers.”
🔎 How has your perception of Indonesia changed after studying in Russia?
➖ ”Studying at MGIMO has deepened my appreciation for Indonesia’s value-based diplomatic tradition and its potential to engage confidently with powers like Russia in a multipolar world. The experience received here has revealed how our countries complement each other in building trust and promoting a fair and predictable international environment.”
🔎 How would you assess the current state of Russia-Indonesia relations and their future prospects?
➖ "Russia–Indonesia relations are stable and respectful. The foundation is strong, but the cooperation still has large untapped potential. Energy, education, technology, and maritime interconnectivity are key areas for expansion. The future depends on how actively both sides institutionalize their partnership."
🔎 What role can MGIMO graduates play in developing relations between our countries?
➖ "MGIMO graduates become cultural and intellectual translators between Russia and Indonesia, not just diplomats. Their strength lies in shaping frameworks, not just agreements, so cooperation becomes sustainable. My personal goal is to contribute to the institutionalization of broader strategic cooperation between both sides, promoting long-term and mutually beneficial partnership."
➡️ Conversation with Fazeh once again illustrates the immense value that international students bring to our alma mater. Their unique perspectives, ambitions, and drive to serve as "bridges" between cultures are key resources for advancing international cooperation. We are proud that MGIMO serves as a platform where the leaders of tomorrow are already being shaped.

MGIMO Graduates – “Living Bridges” of Russia-Vietnam Relations 🇷🇺🇻🇳
On January 26, on the sidelines of the "MGIMO Day in Hanoi", a correspondent for the Vietnamese newspaper Nhan Dan spoke with distinguished MGIMO graduate Nguyen Manh Tien, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for National Defense, Security, and International Relations of the National Assembly of Vietnam. We are sharing the key points from the interview!
👔 "My years of study at MGIMO became a true guiding star for me. MGIMO provided not just knowledge, but a systematic understanding of the world – the ability to analyze complex and interconnected global processes. It was there that I learned to think strategically, to see the long-term consequences of decisions, and to build relationships based on mutual respect," noted Nguyen Manh Tien.
Nguyen Manh Tien attached particular importance to the experience of living in Moscow:
👔 "The Russian diplomatic school is truly unique precisely because it trains not just negotiators, but people capable of deeply understanding their partner. That is why the friendship between our peoples has withstood so many trials and remains a model of strategic partnership today."
It is a great honor for us that "MGIMO Days" have become not just a presentation, but a genuine platform for open dialogue. We thank Mr. Nguyen Manh Tien for participating in the "MGIMO Day in Hanoi" and for sharing such warm memories of his alma mater!

"Life in Moscow in those years was not just about lectures, but also about communication with Russian people, their families, participation in cultural life, understanding what 'an open soul' means, and at the same time a deep restraint in important matters. This is an invaluable experience of empathy and cultural sensitivity."
❗️
"MGIMO is a forge of personnel who continue the tradition of mutual understanding,"
summarized Nguyen Manh Tien.
