Officials have closed the city of Yan’an, 186 miles from Xi’an, the country’s first city to go into lockdown since last year, local media reported.

Authorities have closed most businesses and ordered hundreds of thousands of people to remain indoors.

China has been pursuing a “zero-COVID” policy since the outbreak began, however has been battling small case numbers since reporting of the Omicron variant began.

Egyptologists have unveiled the perfectly wrapped body of Pharaoh Amenhotep I, thanks to 3D topography scanning technology.

After three millennia, the experts were able to determine that the Pharaoh was 35 years old at the time of his death and circumcised. The study confirmed decoded hieroglyphics that had suggested the mummy had been unwrapped in the 11 century - likely to repair damage done by grave robbers.

The Pharaoh had been buried with 30 amulets and a golden girdle underneath his wrappings.

The technological breakthrough not only allowed them to preserve the condition of the sarcophagus contents, but also a “unique opportunity” to study mummification techniques.
