A group of protesters has set fire to the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala as anti-government demonstrations are held against corruption and the increase in the general budget of the nation for the period 2021.

🚨 — On today, November 21, 2020, Supporters of Left Wing opposition, supporters of "Anti-Corruption" & Human Rights NGOs like "Ya Basta" & Indigenous Tribes/Indigenous Organizations took the streets this Saturday to hold a national protest in rejection of the Centre-right President, Alejandro Giammattei, and to demand that his veto of the controversial general budget for 2021, approved by the deputies on November 18 hat cut educational and health spending.

The protest came as about 7,000 people were demonstrating in front of the National Palace in Guatemala City while the Central American country is being affected by the fallout of back-to-back hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
