Security researcher Taylor Monahan warns that hackers have already stolen over $300 million from this method.
1. Isolate and power down.
• Immediately disconnect from Wi-Fi
• Turn off the affected device.
2. Secure your accounts from a safe device.
• Use a separate, clean device to:
— Transfer cryptocurrency to new wallets
— Change all passwords
— Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) wherever possible.
3. Specifically secure Telegram.
• On a phone, open Telegram
• Go to 'Settings' > 'Devices'
• Terminate all other active sessions
• Change your password
• Add or update multifactor authentication.
4. Clean the infected device.
• Perform a full factory reset/complete memory wipe on the compromised device before reusing it.
