Despite these efforts, Tater Tot passed away suddenly in Houghton's hands.

The vet had previously raised the possibility of a heart condition, but Tater Tot's small size prevented any tests from being conducted. Houghton believes that he may have had an enlarged heart, which ultimately led to his passing."
