7 اصل یک ارائه علمی به شرح زیر هستند:
1. سادگی بیان: سخنران خوب کسی است که پیچیده ترین ایده ها را به ساده ترین شکل ممکن ارائه دهد.
2. جلوگیری از حواس پرتی مخاطبان: سخنران باید مطالب را به شکلی ارائه دهد که مخاطبان از موضوع اصلی منحرف نشوند.
3. مختصر و مفید بودن: حذف جزئیات غیرضروری و آمادگی برای ارائه در زمان های مختلف (3، 15 یا 20 دقیقه).
4. خودداری از تکرار: اجتناب از تکرار مطالب مشابه در اسلایدها.
5. هدف از ارائه: معرفی خود به عنوان پژوهشگر، آموزش مطلب جدید یا ارائه دید کلی به غیرمتخصصان، نمایش نتایج پژوهش و دریافت بازخورد.
6. داستانسرایی: ارائه یک داستان کوتاه و دقیق با ارتباط منطقی بین قسمت های مختلف.
7. پرهیز از رفتارهای غیرحرفه ای: اجتناب از حمله به کارهای دیگران، صحبت تند و نشان دادن خودخواهی.
