There is no single word for 'кататься' in English, it depends on the expression:

    To go sledding

2. Катaться на лыжах

    To go skiing/ To ski

3. Кататься на коньках
    [ katat'sya na kan'kakh ]
    To go skating/ To skate

4. Кататься на ватрушке
    [ katat'sya na vatrushke ]
    To go snow tubing
Literally 'ватрушка' means 'cheesecake'.

5. Кататься на снегоходе

    To ride a snowmobile
