An English footprint in Russian boots, where did the "Kirza" come from?

🔻In 1934, Soviet scientists B. Byzov and S. Lebedev developed cheap artificial rubber by impregnating Kersey fabric with it and obtained a new material, "Kirza".

🔻Chemist Ivan Plotnikov took over the production. During the third Soviet-Finnish war, the use of the "kirza" was unsuccessful, the boots cracked in the cold, became hard and brittle. 

🔻In 1941, the shortcomings were eliminated and the "kirza" boots were approved for the Red Army. Tailoring was set up at the Kirov factory. On April 10, 1942, Plotnikov and a group of colleagues were awarded the Stalin Prize II degree.

🔻The "kirza" boots allowed the soldiers to march for miles on the road and off-road. High boots protected the feet from water, burns, damage. Affordable raw materials were used for production, which made it possible to reduce costs. After the war, boots became a "national" brand.

Have you read "Mistress of the Copper Mountain" by Pavel Bazhov (The Malachite Casket", 1936)?

🔻A young factory worker named Stepan meets a woman in unusual clothes and realizes that she is the legendary Mistress of the Copper Mountain. She orders Stepan to tell his factory manager to leave the Krasnogorsk mine so as not to damage her "iron hood".

🔻Stepan does as he is told, and pays for it the head of the mine whipped him and assigned him to the slaughter.

🔻There he meets again with the mistress of the mountain, who takes him to visit her. The owner of the Copper Mountain offers Stepan to marry her, but he refuses, since he already has a bride, Anastasia. For this loyalty the mistress of the Copper Mountain rewards him with a malachite casket containing earrings rings and other jewelry.

The RPL-7, a new Russian light machine gun chambered for 7.62 × 39 mm, has been handed over to the troops for testing.

🔻The machine gun was developed by the Kalashnikov concern, based on the RPL-20 machine gun and modified to meet the requirements of a special military operation.

🔻Purpose: destruction of enemy manpower, as well as unarmored vehicles.

🔻Technical specifications:
☆ caliber: 7.62 × 39 mm;
☆ Cartridge box capacity: 80 rounds;
☆ Aiming range: 800 m;
☆ length with unfolded butt: 1100 mm;
☆ Weight: 5.5 kg.

🔻The package includes a low-noise firing device, a removable bipod, a front handle, machine gun belts and cartridge boxes. An optical and night sight, a designator, and a flashlight are provided for conducting sniper fire.

🔻For the first time, the machine gun was presented at the IDEX 2025 International Arms and Defense Technology Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

🔻TP term was coined by American political scientist Graham Ellison in 2012 in an article for the Financial Times. He used it based on a quote from an ancient Athenian historian and military commander.

🔻Thucydides argued that the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta was inevitable because of Sparta's fear of increasing Athenian power. 

🔻These two similar socio-political mechanisms, interacting, can lead to war.
