The trans body is to normative anatomy what Africa once was to Europe: a territory to be carved up and handed over to the highest bidder. The breasts and the skin to cosmetic surgery, the vagina to state surgery, the penis to psychiatry or to Lacanian anamorphosis. What Western scientific and technical discourse considers to be the emblematic sexual organs of masculinity and femininity, the penis and the vagina, are no more real than Rwanda or Nigeria, than Spain or Italy. There is a difference between the lush green hill on one bank of a river and the windswept desert that stretches away on the other bank. There is the erotic landscape of the body. There are no sexual organs, only colonial enclaves of power.

The trans body is a colony of disciplinary institutions, of psychoanalysis, of the media, of the pharmaceutical industry, of the market.
