Riots erupted last night in the working-class neighborhood of Harehills in the city of Leeds, UK. The local community attacked police, destroyed their cars and set fires in the area.
The incident began after police confiscated five Roma children from their family over alleged safety concerns. One of the children was admitted to a hospital with an injury.
The parents say that the injury was not due to mistreatment, and the rest of the local community quickly rallied against the authorities.
Harehills is one of the poorest areas of the country, hit hard by more than a decade of austerity measures. Roma communities have emphasized that their children are more likely than others to be separated by social services due to the discrimination they face.
Far-right accounts in the US and Europe immediately pounced on the situation, claiming that “Muslims” and “immigrants” were behind the clashes, and thereby whipping up racism.

The International Court of Justice in the Hague now labels Israel's practices in the occupied Palestinian territories as Apartheid. Any territory invaded/annexed by Israel is not recognized by International Committee.
This also gives recognition to the Palestinian Resistance, shutting down the propagandist claims that Palestinian Freedom Fighters are terrorists.

OTD 2001, Carlo Giuliani was murdered by police while defending his community during the G8 summit in Genoa.
As the actual incident, during civil dissent, police drove into the crowd, fucked up and blocked themselves in. People responded.
Carlo, in process of chucking a fire extingusher at them, was shot.They then drove over him to escape before attacking people who went to his aid.
The murder would result in a police conspiracy and we'd see the face of non-violent resistance as such groups withdrew from further action, beaten into obediance. For them protest is healthy democracy between two groups, sporting and in good cheer.
In truth, the state and the police who enforce their will are mortal enemies of the working class and they will kill you.
