Kom el-Shoqafa sits more than 30 meters beneath Alexandria, a unique necropolis where Egyptian, Greek, and Roman traditions blend in the same chamber.
Its three carved levels once held elite burials decorated with hybrid deities and detailed reliefs; the lowest is now underwater, but the iconography remains clear.
Named for the broken pottery found on-site, it’s one of Alexandria’s most informative and surprisingly down-to-earth archaeological discoveries.
