Mib

Anyone else constantly wanted to see mib transform into the smoke so we could see how he does it. Is it easy, hard? Maybe just me, but i would have found that a good scene

Summoning ritual - thoughts?

What's your take on the "smoke summoning ritual" we see Ben perform offscreen in S4, and then again in more detail in S6?

I submit that throughout time, the "black smoke summoning ritual" (either taking place in the temple in the room specifically dedicated to Smoky, or in the little alcove in Dharmaville) was always a method of manipulation used by the smoke monster. It would be an effective tool to manipulate those who seek to ingratiate themselves with him, not to mention the design in Dharmaville is a clear mockery of Jacob's design of the cork apparatus down in the heart of the island. It feels likely to me that the Smoke Monster would not allow himself to be a pet on a leash, summoned at anyone's whim by simply draining the pool. No, I think it was just a way to continue to exploit the minds and desires of the people on the island, just as the chamber below the temple was used by MiB to scan their minds and learn how to exploit their memories and fears while also appearing to them as a deity of sorts.

I feel that if someone did pull that cork, and the Smoke came - like Ben in S4 - it was because the MiB wanted to. He could use that moment to capitalize on a current or future opportunity where the person who pulled the plug was afraid, in need of "divine intervention", etc and would be susceptible to his manipulation. When Smokey comes to take care of the mercenaries, it ends up serving MiB's interests given that Ben ultimately kills Jacob of course. But what if he didn't come? Has Ben or anyone else ever pulled the cork, drained the water and then... nothing?

Obviously Ben believed this ritual worked right away. He doesn't seem to even consider that it might not succeed. But he certainly seems unsettled by the need to use this technique. He keeps it as a final ace in the hole once Widmore "changed the rules" - which raises another question of - when did Ben use this in the past? Obviously he knows what it does in general, yet, it seems clear that there's no way to communicate your specific desire to it, so what if it goes off the rails or misinterprets the situation you present it with? He doesn't seem concerned about that either, other than to advise that everyone run as far away from the mercenaries as possible. Maybe he just knows about it from knowledge handed down from the Widmore/Eloise era, or even earlier? Or maybe it was relayed to him by Richard after the Dharma genocide? I can't imagine Richard would advocate for its use, given his allegiance to Jacob (though we know Richard doesn't seem to know a ton about the mythology of the smoke beyond his own interactions with early in his time on the island).

Obviously whoever built the houses must know about its existence. Did Horace know? Overall - the Dharma folks fear the smoke monster (hence the pylons), and don't seem to be looking for ways to invite him in. The Others seem to have a begrudging neutral-to-negative stance on the smoke, if we're to believe the "security system" concept that we hear Juliet and Ben tell to the survivors - so it would be interesting to know if/when Ben felt compelled to use it in the past, and for what purpose. Did any other Others know this chamber existed?

Do you think the ritual is all, pardon the lousy dad pun here, Smoke and mirrors?

Still the greatest show ever made.

The noscript says it all. I just finished my (14th? Im losing count) rewatch of the show. Just wanted to post about it quickly. It doesnt matter how many times I've watched this show. It still holds up. I know everyone has their own preferences etc. And thats cool. But for me, this is the greatest show ever made. I watch every episode and even though I know everything that happens i still love every moment of it. What makes it better for me is that at certain times in my life I've watched it and felt so many different things depending on what's happening in my life. Juliet and Sawyer reunion scene was always my favourite however after having kids I watch the Claire reunion scene and it hits me so hard her being reunited with her son. I honestly do not think there will be a show that ever takes its place in my heart. Respond as you want but if you feel like it give me some of your favourite moments/episodes. I can expect many to say The Constant with the phone call between Penny and Desmond. That scene alone to me may be one of the best and most emotional TV scenes I've watched.

Which episode do we see Jack get prescribed benzos?

The episode where he is in the hospital and he starts seeing his dead father and then freaks out. He asks another doctor to prescribe Clonazepam. Then he goes home and he gets into a fight with Kate over Sawyer, then chugs down his new RX with a beer. I don't know if this is season 4 or 5 since they all have flash forwards.

Questions (spoiler)

Why was Lockes exgf on the island?

Why didnt Linus explain to the plane survivors what was going /asking for help instead of complicating it?

Why did Jacob not explain to Linus why he didnt treat him well instead of saying "what about you?"?

Why at the end Jack didnt just exit the golden pool?

Why did they stop living in the cave?

First watch through - I wish I was watching when this was on

They say there are 46 passengers after the burn, but there are so many people that seemingly don’t matter?

Locke the jungle man and the doctor make decisions for everyone? Where is the diplomacy?

If there are people on the island doesn’t that mean they have a way to leave? Why are they immediately an enemy?

I can’t wait to catch up - but seriously, what happens to the people that aren’t in the main cast?

Linus

Surely if ben knew there was a doctor on the island, he would come across civil and make friendship with survivors? Obviously the tv show needs drama, but if this was real life, me personally i’d go to the survivors and introduce my team and say i need to surgery.

rewatch

i’ve been thinking about rewatching lost more and more the last couple months. i keep seeing videos on social media about it and just a couple days ago i decided to start watching fringe(another jj abrams show) and that made me want to watch lost even more. i watched lost for the first time around 2018 and it was immediately in my top shows all time. i started 2 more rewatches about a year or two later but i always stopped around season 3. i finally started this current rewatch last night and it’s starting to come back to me lol. one of the reasons i’ve been putting it off is because how “slow”the first season is but i said fuck it 😂😂any questions i have i’ll be making more posts.

Alex’s code to deactivate the fence

… is 1623.

We see it when Alex is captured by Keamy and is forced to deactivate the fence, triggering the 14-J.

I’m on watch 500 and I enjoy looking for these easter eggs, still. Never noticed this one and couldn’t find any reference on this sub

Happy Friday to me :)

I had a really nice conversation with the smoke monster

Thought you guys might enjoy this. I’ve been working in the film industry for 8 years now, and you get very used to working directly with celebrities. We treat each other professionally for the duration of our show lengths and the cast and crew bond as a working family most of the time. I’ve worked with many big name actors and I don’t ever really bat an eye anymore, they’re just people at the end of the day and when we engage it’s as friendly co-workers. I’ve never really fanboyed anyone before.

But I finally got to work with a Lost cast member, and having been a fan of the show since the pilot, since I was a kid, I couldn’t help but let him know how meaningful the show was to me and his incredible role in it as well. So I ended up shooting the shit with the smoke monster for 20 minutes (Titus Welliver) and we talked about Lost for a long time among other similar interests of ours, and he is such a humble and down to earth man. I had the luxury to hear him tell me about his whole experience on the show from the phone call to work on it up to when he discovered who his character was. It was a really surreal experience, and he’s a lovely person. When I left the conversation to get back to work I remember just thinking, “wow, I just hung out with the smoke monster”, and the teenager inside of me was really thrilled by the whole interaction.

Anyway, TLDR: Titus Welliver is a class act. Much respect.

Hurley wanting to "be free"

This is such a heartwarming and heartbreaking series of events. Bernard encourages Hurley to do a cannonball and he has the sweetest face in that moment. Immediately into the WHERE IS CHARLIE? moment. And flash forward into a MIB encounter. No commercial interuption. My emotions didnt know what to do.

Lost Explained Channel

Has Lost Explained publicly revealed who he is? I only ask as he’s mentioned in some videos that he himself is a writer and works in the business and since I think his videos are very eloquent and well-made, I’d be curious to see his own personal works! I don’t know if he is still intentionally anonymous and so I don’t mean to pry in that way, but I’m unaware if he has willingly made himself public or not
