what are your most unpopular lost opinions??

i want controversy, hot takes, and discussion.

i’ll start: Jacob was just as much of a villain as MIB was. Also, I liked Exposé

Do you think the ending could’ve been better?

Just finished binging Lost. The plot felt kind of weak and scattered at times. Especially season 5 imo. It could feel tedious how it often built to a sub plot that would go nowhere. E.g Ben and Sayid’s international assassination arc against whitmore. Or Michael and Walt’s unresolved arc. That said, the character development was unreal and when the finale hit, I’ve never cried harder from a show in my life…

The scene where Kate smiles at jack once he lets go and walks in to the church! When they all start to remember each other! WHEN VINCENT LAYS DOWN WITH JACK DYING!! 😭😭😭

But after reading this sub I understand they weren’t all dead the whole time and actually lived the island life?

I can’t help but fantasise that it would’ve been a stronger plot if they were all dead the whole time and did die in the initial crash. And the island was purgatory until they accepted their death and let go and completed their life lessons. E.g sawyer’s revenge arc. Or John’s forgiveness; jack learning to let go; sayid experiencing the torture he inflicted unto others etc. This wouldn’t have interfered with the alternate reality/purgatory where the plane didn’t crash at all. It would’ve strengthened it imo. This could’ve been just a parallel purgatory that all synced up with the island’s plot to one big creacendo where they realise and have to accept they are all dead before going in to the light… both on the island and the church. They can’t cheat death even if they wanted the plane not to crash. It would’ve explained all the time nuances of the island as time doesn’t exist in the afterlife. It would’ve explained why they felt a need to return to the island and accept their fate/mortality when some left. Not to mention all the other weird anomalies of the island

And based on near death experiences of the afterlife, everything would’ve been congruent. The flash backs could’ve been perceived not only as character building to the viewer, but also life reviews of the characters, commonly reported in Near death experiences. That paired with the constant use of mirrors in season 6 (life reflection)… especially the lighthouse.

Even the theme of light vs dark in season 6. Jacob could’ve been more of an angel/guide to help them find the light. While the man in black/ smoke monster could’ve been the more deceptive darker force trying to keep them away from the light and moving on, trapped with fear, anger etc. But the writers decided to go with something more at face value with the island’s own lore that felt kinda messy tbh. Jacob’s/smokie’s origin felt almost anticlimactic in its explanation. Even the light at the source of the island was its own thing and not in fact the light after death/heaven. And With the use of white and black stones between Jacob and the man in black I hoped it was if they were competing for souls… I.e Saved vs corrupted. And Jacob doesn’t intervene because of free will and them needing to experience and learn for themselves but is always there for them like an angel figure. It felt like they were kind of hinting at this but would then back off and not commit only to go in another direction.

But as I understand, some of them got off the island and lived a full life and the real purgatory was the parallel universe where they survived the crash? And they all waited for each other to die until they finally met up and went in to the light together? Even though the island would’ve only been a small chapter of their entire life if they lived on so why all wait for each other? Especially Bernard and rose who were at the final church but never wanted to get involved with the groups drama? And Michael wasn’t there? So he’s trapped as a ghost on the island? Maybe Michael could’ve been where Ben was, sitting outside the church not ready to forgive himself and go in to the light.

I can’t stop thinking about it all the same though. I know I’m late to the party but would like to hear others thoughts.

Rousseau was #20?? How did I miss this??

I was paying special attention to numbers this time around and I was thinking how Jack is #23, Sayid is #16, Kwon is #42.... the numbers are carved in the hatch in 1977... but unlike Sawyer and Kate they were visited by Jacob when they were grown ups instead of kids, so what? It was a placeholder for whenever he assigned a person to them? Or maybe -as we see in this very episode- he already had them in mind since they were kids but only visited/touched them when they were adults?

Anyways... I just saw this and I can't believe I missed it over and over! Rousseau is 20? Or am I reading it wrong?

I dont understand how Eloise (the rat) died.

Faraday explained that his rat died because her mind couldn't keep track of the past, future and present because she had no "constant"

The rat lived in a cage and ran through a maze. How much more constant can you get?

And yet he was just fine having Charlotte as a constant because...?

Rewatching LOST and forgot about this moment. As a Boston Red Sox fan, I got a good laugh when it first aired.

Do you think that Juliet’s sister had cancer? Is there any evidence to prove it?

on this watchthrough we were wondering whether Ben (/“jacob”? if ben’s actually ever in touch with him like that?) even COULD cure cancer, and we thought maybe that the cancer part could have been a complete deception. Her sister’s hair is hella grown out in the video with her kid, even if the cancer was a while ago it doesn’t show anything that makes me believe him. i think juliet was really vulnerable and willing to believe him given her circumstances.

Claire

I’m rewatching for something like the twelfth time, and I’m nearing the end. This time around I’ve found something new to get stuck wondering about. I’m sorry if this has been discussed before.

Claire is out in the jungle with MIB for three years. Dogan says she’s “infected,” which means (according to him) that everything she once was is gone. She ends up leaving on the plane in the end, and we assume she gets reunited with Aaron. How do you suppose that goes? Is everything okay? Is she a good mother to Aaron, even though she’s supposedly no longer her true self? Was Dogan mistaken about her?

What do you guys think?

Where can I buy high quality Lost merch?

Whenever I search it up it seems to just show me low quality products from sites I don’t recognise. For anyone who has bought merch, where do you recommend?

I’m looking for anything from posters to clothing etc.
