Why did the Swan need a long shaft?

I love thinking about the lore of this series. One of my own unanswered questions that I think about a lot is exactly why the Swan is as built the way it was. It needed to be underground because it was, like the Orchid, meant to be in close proximity to the ”exotic matter”. But still, there was an entrance that seems more convenient to go through.

It seems almost like an emergency back exit? In case the hostile would come through the other entrance.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking things, and they simply kept the shaft since that’s the way they dug themselves down there?

Season 1 Endings

The end of episode 2 (the double pilot essentially) has a shot of Kate before the credits. The end of episode 3 has a shot of Locke before the credits. Do you think they were originally gonna have each episode end with a shot of the character who is the focus of the next or is it just a coincidence?

Need to brag

I watched Lost when it first came out - well, I missed the first few seasons but caught up by the last couple of seasons to be able to watch it live. I have only seen it through that one time.

My wife has never seen any of it before and we have started watching it together.

While I will never be able to forget certain events and things to come, this is as close to watching it anew that I can come to and It Is Awesome. What a cool feeling to experience these things again for almost the first time.

Risking be downvoted for the brag but I am pretty sure you all can be happy for us, especially my wife!

How did Desmond stay sane in the hatch for 3 years alone?

I'm sure a lot of people would find solitude with some nice books and music to be quite nice. But imagine for 3 years you couldn't sleep for longer than 108 minutes at a time before being woken up by deafening alarms and shaking ground. I'm surprised when Jack and Locke popped the hatch open they didn't find Gollum.

Lost, but no flashbacks


I’ve watched and rewatched Lost like 20 times at this point, and for some reason I’ve just been really into the survivor/beach aspects of the story the past few rewatches.

Is there a way for me to watch it like this? Maybe someone has done an edit or something? Just wondering. Thanks.

Season 5: help me understand something

First time watching lost so no spoilers please!!! I am almost half way through Season 5 and I can’t understand why Sun blames Ben for Jin’s death? It was Charles Widmore’s boat, and Charles Widmore’s psycho army guy that blew the boat up. She had no way of knowing Ben was the guy that killed him to detonate the bomb. Why would she try to team up with Charles against Ben over this?
