John Locke

I’ve see the show through twice, 12 and 8 years ago respectively. I’m rewatching it now, about mid way through season 5.

The first two times I watched the show, I absolutely HATED John’s character. Couldn’t stand him, every time he showed up on screen/we got pieces of his backstory I would get so mad, I didn’t even feel a ton of sympathy for him when we did learn his backstory.

But now, I have so much empathy for him. I wouldn’t say I like him by any means, but I feel like I understand his character more and why he does the things he does. His life is actually heartbreaking. I’m not sure if it’s my own maturity, or just really being able to appreciate the writing this time around. I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on his character/other characters you didn’t like the first time around, but might have come around to on rewatches!

What do you all think of the noscript card/intro?

I’ve heard some people say they love it and wouldn’t change it at all. My friends personally hate it though, and think that the sound at the beginning is to annoying and it doesn’t do anything to “introduce the episode”. I’m kinda in the middle, it gets the job done and sets part of the tone alright but it would’ve been interesting to see what they could’ve done with an extended noscript card or intro for every episode (what scenes would they include? What music would they use?).

What do you think? Would you change it, or do you think it’s already perfect?

S3 E21: Greatest Hits

After Karl shows up on the beach to warn them the others were coming summer than expected, they decide to shoot at the dynamite since they didn’t have the wiring set up yet. Jack says they need 3 shooters since 3 tents have been marked, which leads to Sayid, Jin and Bernard staying back. Why couldn’t they just take off the white rocks from the third tent and have only 2 shooters who could also run fast (no diss at Bernard - I know he gets his target and Jin doesn’t) if things went sideways?

I am aware that’s how the story was written. I just don’t see the point why it was written like that. It would have removed nothing from the storyline if marked 2 tents instead of 3.

Would Jack choose the island or Kate?

There was this old post that I saw that sparked my interest and would love to talk about again. By the finale we know Jack is a changed man, starting to let go, not be the one in ultimate control. If he MiB had Kate in hostage or some similar scenario where he has the choice to save Kate or MiB, who would he choose? I think Kate because he has a strong devotion towards her. We know he really cares about protecting the island and killing MiB would actually relieve him of his duties since he was the biggest threat Jacob had as well. So one would be fulfilling his destiny and one his heart. I think even if he wasn't in this dire situation, he would find a way to escape with Kate or find Kate off island after killing MiB since he would be done protecting the island and the Heart.

I’m still mad about how the writer treated Sayid

Yes and I know it’s been 15 years and I’m not a lost hater by any means, but Sayid’s initial character was awesome. He had found redemption, found love, came to terms with himself and then he basically became a hitman and then a zombie. It would have been so much better if they had just killed Kim in season 3 or 4.
