Rewatched. Incredible, but confused at ending

Having seen the show for the first time about a decade ago and re-watching it over this past month, I can say, without a doubt, this is one of the greatest TV shows that’s ever been made. And I definitely enjoyed it in its entire entirety more this time through.

That being said, several things about the finale, threw me off at the end.

First of all, where is Michael? He was a vital character to the show. He doesn’t go to heaven? If it’s for killing Ana Lucia and Libby, why is Libby there and not Ana Lucia?

If Jack just died and Hurley is running the island, how is Hurley there in the church with everyone else who is dead?

If Kate and Sawyer got on the plane and left the island, why are they there?

If Kate and Sawyer died somehow in the same timespan, then that would mean Frank, Miles and Richard would have died too. Why aren’t they there?

Where is Walt?

Where is Vincent?

Why is Penny there? The Monster tells Widmore he’s gonna kill Penny when he gets off the island, so she was obviously still alive. How does it make sense for her to be there with all of the dead people?

Why does Kate bite her lip like she wants to bang Jack in the church after she takes his hand as they’re walking to the pews to sit?

Another major problem that I had is that they had Kate choose Sawyer when she had the option of Jack or Sawyer throughout the whole show. Sawyer and Juliet end up together because Jack and Kate are gone. Jack and Kate either got married and divorced or called off the wedding, I can’t remember, but we never even got to witness that. They didn’t work together their whole lives. Jack and Kate weren’t really a good match throughout the whole show and then at the end we are just supposed to accept that they ended up together? It just felt off. Jack always chose saving other people over being with the woman he loved in his life. That’s why Julie Bowen left him. He did it again at the very end when he stayed at the island and told Kate and Sawyer to go to the boat. It just doesn’t add up.

I wish they explained more with the mother and how she was able to have these powers for Jacob and his brother to never kill each other. Obviously, when Desmond pulled out the stone and the light went away, that changed. But, how in the first place was she able to give that power? All we know about her is she stole 2 sons from another woman. We should have gotten more of a backstory for the explanation of the light and the mother.

There’s obviously more to question but I’m not gonna ramble more. It’s almost 1am here after all, but those are the questions at the forefront of my mind.

Confused? Lol

Hey everyone! I’m currently watching Lost for the first time, I’m on the last two or three episodes I believe. And this one detail is driving me kinda crazy, Idk if it’s a plot hole or what. But in the season 5 finale ‘The Incident’ (can’t remember if it’s part 1 or 2), we see Jack and the MiB talking by the statue. The MiB tells Jacob that he’s gonna kill him eventually. Then flash forward to the ‘Across the Seas’ episode, we see that Jacob was living with his mother when he threw the MiB into the light that turned him into the smoke monster. I’m confused because Jacob must’ve lived at that statue years after that happened and was talking to the MiB in his original form, but Jacob had killed his original body several years before when his mom died? I’d assume Jacob went to live at the statue after his mom died? So how did the original body of the MiB meet up with Jacob there? Kind of a dumb detail to get hung up on, I just wasn’t sure if it was a plot hole or if I’m missing something? 😂

For fans of the ending...

Hey guys!

First time posting to this sub.
I used to be a massive fan of lost and loved pouring through the DVD's as a kid, until the ending that is. I used to think the ending was universally agreed upon as a bad ending, but I'm seeing conflicting opinions after looking around.

To the fans of the season finale, did the ending feel right as soon as you watched it? Or did you need to reframe your perspective of the story to enjoy it? And what kind of emotions did you go through after seeing it through?

How do they explain the plane...

After the 6 return, does the media/public just ignore the fact that a fully-intact Oceanic 815 was found on the ocean floor with all passengers abord and dead?

EDIT: I thought the news stated the entire plane was found, no sections missing. They show the cockpit which is how Lupitas knows the pilot is a fake. Maybe the tail section is missing and that's how they explain the Losties surviving?

the ajira plane

how do you guys think they explained that a plane with 300 people went missing then came back with only the pilot and a girl that was on another missing plane that came back alive somehow and then went missing again and a 300 year old guy that was a prisoner on a ship that dissappeared 300 years ago and a guy from the 815 plane that was announced dead a long time ago with the confirmation of the six survivors that also died on this plane somehow , and miles that might be the most normal one out of them even tho he dissappear for whole 3 years while everyone on his ship died

How do we feel about these bits of dialogue? S4/S5 spoilers

In various interactions with Kate and Ben off the island, Jack says that when Locke came to visit him as Jeremy Bentham, he said things like:

\- Some very bad things happened and it was Jack’s fault for leaving

\- Everyone left behind would die too if he didn’t go back

\- Going back was the only way to keep Aaron and Kate safe

Of course later on we see Locke and Jack’s entire interaction in the hospital and Locke doesn’t say any of this. I’ve always chalked it up to Jack lying to Kate, Ben, and mostly himself to try and justify and grapple with his mental state at the time. I’m curious how others interpreted the difference between what Jack said and what we actually see?

- I'm hesitant about watching the show. I've heard that the ending is giant cop-out

Unfortunately, due to various reasons, a big group misinterpreted the ending. This spread fast. If you've heard that >!the characters were dead since the plane crash!< then you've been misformed about the ending. This isn't true.

- I've started watching the show, can I still post here?

Yes. Feel free to post. Use the First-Time Watcher flair and add in your questions, theories and discussion topics. We always thrive on new Lostaways. Just be very cautious and tell us where you are in the show (season and episode). Beware of spoilers!

- I'm nearing the end of the show, but there's an uncut version of the finale and a two-parter. Which to watch?

There's only one version of the finale that was approved by the showrunners. The uncut version that runs about 106 minutes. ABC cut down a two-parter series finale for syndication, in case of reruns of the show. This version was sent to various streaming services. Now, most streaming services have both versions. The uncut and the two-parter. The uncut is the one that was aired, approved and the only one you need to watch.

- I've just finished the show. What now?

Check out the epilogue. Click here for a thread of additional content. Or the FAQ archive which consist of various questions about the show.

FIRST TIME WATCHER EPISODE DISCUSSION, SERIES HUB

Hello, new Losties! This hub is designed for first-time watchers to discuss, theorize, share thoughts and impressions, etc on episodes of LOST as they move through the series. Below the guidelines and first-timer tips there is a link to a hub for each season where another link to a post for each episode will be listed. This post is in the Quick Links on the right side of the sub main page and will be temporarily pinned to the top of the sub for easy access.

# If you have heard that the ending of LOST ruined the show, this comes from a small but loud minority who misunderstood the finale. The ending of LOST is not a cheat.

Please adhere to the hub guidelines below:

Only first-time watchers should leave initial comments. Rewatchers can leave spoiler-free replies.
Please avoid asking for spoilers as this may impact other redditors.
Do not discuss details from any episode past the one in the post noscript. For example. If you are commenting on Walkabout you can discuss anything up to those events, but not White Rabbit and beyond.
Be civil and respectful of each others' theories and opinions.

FIRST TIME WATCHER TIPS:

We strongly recommend you do not speed watch. LOST is a complicated show with complex characters. Give yourself time to absorb each episode before moving on.
SEASON THREE - the early-middle of this season is a universally agreed upon slow point in the show with some acknowledged filler. It's normal to struggle through some of the episodes but just hold on and it will pick up soon and be a thrill ride through to the series finale!
Do not be discouraged if you frequently feel confused. Just keep watching and give the show your undivided attention. No multitasking!
When you reach the Series Finale make sure you are watching the UNCUT version as the cut version is missing 18 minutes of footage. The UNCUT version begins with the cargo door of an airplane opening.
There is a dog featured in the show. You may be asking yourself, does the dog die? The answer is >!NO, the dog does not die!<.
This subreddit has two discord servers in quick links but "The Island - LOST Server" is NOT spoiler free. One of our community members has created an alternate discord server safe for First Time Watchers. Bonus content can be unlocked there as you move through the series.

If you have any questions or concerns about this hub, please feel free to drop them here and we'll get back to you ASAP.
