Ben's motives in S5's 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham'

After Ben talks down Locke from hanging himself, Locke gives him two pieces of information, though Ben's reaction is hard for me to follow.

Jin is still alive. Ben seems genuinely shocked ("Jin is alive?!"), and looks away for a few moments.
Q1. He clearly knew a bunch of survivors were still alive since Widmore never got to the island and Locke was still alive, so why is he so shocked at Jin?
Q2. More importantly, what's he realizing/plotting once he learns this?

Eloise Hawking is the one to help them get back. Once Ben knows this he kills Locke obviously.
Q3. does he do this since he's now found a way back to the island AND at the same time could conveniently eliminate his competition as leader?
Q4. Are we meant to believe he didn't already know Eloise was able to help? Perhaps he only knew OF her if she left the island when Ben was a child, in 1977 so she could give birth to Daniel elsewhere. But even so, he must know The Lamp Post can find the island, since he usurped Dharma and learned about them. We don't see him at that station with Eloise until AFTER Locke is dead (even though it happens a few episodes earlier).

Hope that makes sense. I love talking about this show. :)

I finished my 3rd time rewatch

This show gets better after every rewatch. A couple thoughts :

\- I think that Claire's darkness was cured after the light was unplugged, since it temporarily made both powers of dark and light disappear. Since I think that this core was where souls come from and return to when a lifeform's physical envelope dies, I kinda wonder where the souls of people who died, MiB's included, went during the time it was unplugged. Disappeared into nothingness / destroyed? Less problematic for newborns since I imagine that their souls can enter their bodies a bit later, but then again dead souls might also be able to return to the source a bit later so it's probably a non-issue.

\- I feel I now have answers to every mystery, in part thanks to all of you too. I'm still teary-eyed while typing this. Lindelof, Cuse, etc. can be proud, and it annoys me that Lindelof seems to be apologetic in a few interviews ; he really shouldn't be since he actively participated in creating what I consider a masterpiece. A really gorgeous and very well-written and shot show, with incredible actors! It really is my #1 of all time. I wish I could write something as good but alas, I have no idea how to create a (good) story lol. I probably don't have the talent of these guys and it's very frustrating because my dream would be to write great things like this.

What the printer sound in Walkabout 33m:32s previews...

Am I reading too much into this or is the printer sound heard after the first "Colonel" Locke scene with Randy a foreshadowing of what happens to Locke later?

Am I the only one who finds this scene between Jin, Sun & Ana Lucia so sweet? I love how they make Ana feel welcomed! 🥰

Is lost worth watching if i’m not a huge sci-fi fan?

Just to be more specific, I’m generally not the biggest sci-fi fan especially if it gets too over the top. Some level is fine and I love fantasy movies but my friend recommended lost so now i’m just curious how much sci-fi is there in lost?

Edit: Forgot to mention that Disney + is the only streaming site that has it in my country and I cancelled my subnoscription a while back so that’s why I’m debating whether to resubscribe or not just so I can give lost a shot

Justice for the women

I’m a few episodes away from the finale and can’t believe how poorly most of the women were written. Outside of the first time watcher discussion, I have avoided this sub so I’m not sure if this is a common criticism but fucking hell they all suck. Kate is a horrible person who only exists to track every now and again while bouncing between Jack and Sawyer. The only slight redemption she had was raising Aaron which also felt forced as she never showed the ability to care for anyone deeply other than herself. Sun was built up to be so great and now I’m watching her revert to Michael-Walt just constantly moaning about finding Jin. Claire’s obviously not really a character anymore after the “sickness” or whatever but even before that she was only relevant for being pregnant also a HORRIBLE actress. Charlotte had a very brief role(thank fuck) but another terrible actress with no real substance to the story besides being Daniel’s love interest. Even Eloise wasn’t really anything besides a weird lady who said some vague bullshit to push everyone to their places. Shannon and Anna Lucia both sucked and were erratic/low IQ. The only interesting characters for me were Juliet, Danielle and Alex(maybe Libby if she didn’t get blasted so early) WHO ALL DIED ANTI-CLIMATICALLY. I get the sense that many were casted to be eye candy rather than giving them proper characterization. Sorry for the wall of text but I needed to vent after how disappointing the writing was for all the women.

Does it get better?

So first time watcher here. On s3e05. I loved the first season. Second season was meh. Too much happening all at one rather than building. Does it get better and answer all the questions or the romance side gonna change and try to do something else? No spoilers please

Head whacking

Currently rewatching for the millionth time, and I’m noticing just how many people get head whacked unconscious each episode! Has anyone ever done a tally of how many head whacks occur throughout the show? If they weren’t on the island, surely they’d all have CTE by now.

I’m getting old and these are the things I notice.
