New Episode of "Not Penny's Podcast" is LIVE!!

Apologies for those who have been listening. We had to take a couple weeks away for life happenings but we are back with a brand new episode focusing on Rebecca's first thoughts after seeing "White Rabbit" and "House of the Rising Sun"!

If you are not familiar with the show, as we are still relatively new, it is a two-person show with me, Michael, a "Lostie" who watched live during the original broadcast plus multiple rewatches, and my co-host, Rebecca, who is watching LOST for the VERY FIRST TIME!

A few people gave us some early feedback that I was spoiling things and being a little too loose lipped during discussions, so starting with this show I hope you will notice there should be a big change there.

Thank you to all who are listening, and we hope you keep going with us! We are doing 1-2 episodes of LOST per podcast episode so our hope is to get through the series in roughly a year through weekly uploads. The show is up on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and we are working on other platforms including YouTube, Amazon Music and Pocketcasts. Hope you all enjoy!

claire's hair in season 6

I'm in the middle of season 6 right now and cannot stop noticing how messed up claire's hair (i assume a wig) is. So many people on this island have long curly hair, and it was normal the first 100 days on the island. Did she forget how to wash her hair? Her fake dirty make up is also crazy looking sometimes.

(lighthearted- i know she’s been struggling in that jungle!)

did anyone else notice this?

Is it possible a couple of characters worked for Jacob, but it was never explicitly confirmed?

The characters I'm really considering here are Libby and the psychic (forgot his name).

Let's look at Libby first, whilst on the island a lot of viewers suspected she was an "other" like Ethan was. I think this suspicion continues on when the tailies meet our main group and when she's getting close to Hurley. Then after her death we get the shock twist that she was in the institute with Hurley and it never really went explained. I've seen it commented before that her behaviours are almost a little stalker-ish. What if she was following Hurley, what if Jacob had tasked her with this off the island, which is why she self admitted into the institute. She was there watching Hurley, seeing how he would be as a candidate. Maybe she was crying in that scene because Hurley had found the spirit of her husband, but she couldn't intervene. She then gets close to Hurley on the island, because she already knew him quite well after studying him off island.

Secondly, the psychic that Claire sees. If we take his comments in Eko's flashback literally, then he was a fraud and he had no psychic abilities. What if Jacob just employed this guy to get Claire on that flight. Knowing she was already into star signs and that sort of spiritual stuff, he thought making contact with her as a psychic might be the way to convince her to get the plane. It might also explain his daughter coming back to life, maybe Jacob saved her using the powers from the temple?

Just some thoughts, I might be stretching!

Did Hurley ever give Jack his watch back? Is Hurley a thief?!

Who else kept expecting Rousseau to have an episode?

I know "This Place is Death" can *kind of* be considered that, but come on. I wanted a Rousseau episode so bad😭😭😭

JUST FINISHED!!

I just finished the series after taking like 2 years to watch it. I genuinely really enjoyed the ending and a lot of old threads on here helped me make sense of it. I had heard in high school that “they’re dead all along” so I went into the show wondering if that theory was true. Now I believe what y’all have said about everything actually happening, and the flash sideways in season 6 being purgatory where they make their connections before “moving on”. I have a question about the church scene though (which I loved): I get why Hurley and Ben aren’t there, but why aren’t Michael, Walt, Mr. Echo, Ana Lucia, etc there? I thought at first that maybe the tail section survivors just weren’t there but Bernard and Libby are. Is it because Echo and Ana Lucia (and anyone else I’m forgetting) don’t have a “connection” like everyone else in the church does? But if so why is Boone there if Shannon has Sayid? And then if they have to have a “connection” (partner) with them why is Locke there? My biggest issue is Walt and Michael not being there. I feel like Walt was SO important to the first season and it felt weird he’s not included in this.

HOWEVER, I did just watch the epilogue so now I see that maybe Walt is the next Jacob and that’s why he wasn’t there along with Ben and Hurley?

Dharma Initiative and the Smoke Monster

Something that always made me think about the times I watched the series is whether the Dharma Initiative knew about the existence of the Smoke Monster. Because, thinking about it, the barriers they put around their village are to protect them from others, not from the Smoke Monster (although at one point it's shown that the black smoke can't get through that barrier). But if they never knew about its existence, that's something that always made me wonder.

Sawyer and Jack from Lord of the Flies

I know there’s been many posts asking if LOST is inspired by Lord of the Flies, don’t worry. I just haven’t seen a specific post or much mention about how similar Sawyer is to Jack. They’re both portrayed as violent, selfish, egotistical antagonists who get a thrill out of scaring those around them. They both get ostracized from their groups for their behavior and set off to make their own camps. And they’re both known to embellish the truth and lie about themselves. I’m sure I’m missing some other things too!

A brief look at the tight production schedule of Season One

Since it just came up in a question about the production time for season 1 I thought I could compile some data for a brief overview with some estimates, based on noscripts, call sheets and other info that narrow it down a bit.

https://old.reddit.com/r/lost/comments/1r9ml5n/season_1_of_lost_was_filmed_in_2003_because_it/

**Tabula Rasa**

*"Tabula Rasa"* was the first proper episode after the pilot. We don't really know for sure when they began working on the episode, but it was at some point in June of 2004. The final production draft is dated July 12 2004 and cameras started rolling July 15 2005. The episode premiered October 6 2004 - about 4 months after they began working on season 1.

**Walkabout**

While Tabula Rasa was being filmed on Oahu, the writers continued working on the noscripts. The first draft of *"Walkabout"* is dated July 15 2004 with the latest draft being from August 4 2004. From a spoiler-report we know that Locke's flashback scene with the wheelchair reveal was filmed July 23 2004 while the noscript was still being worked on. The episode premiered October 13 2004, about 3 months after they began filming.

**Hearts and Minds**

Jumping forward to the halfway point of the first season with *"Hearts and Minds"*. The first draft of the noscript is dated November 3 2004 with the noscript being finished by December 13 2004. The unfinished Network Cut of that episode is dated December 8 2004 - with the amount of scenes left to be filmed and all the post production to be done it's unlikely that the episode was finished before ~December 20. Hearts and Minds premiered January 12 2005, at best three weeks after the episode was finished. Any head start they had at the beginning of the season was basically gone and even more breaks between episodes unavoidable.

**Exodus**

The home stretch of season 1 was of course the three part finale *"Exodus"*. While the noscript of the episode has never been released yet, there are some photos and call sheets that give us some dates. The first date from the production draft for Part One is March 11, 2005 with the last given date being March 21, 2005. The production draft of Part Two is dated March 24, 2005.

From the call sheet we know that there were 10 filming days allocated for Part One with the episode being filmed from about March 18 to March 30 2005. Part Two had 15 days allocated for filming, which must have happened from about April 1 2005 to April 20 2005. Part One eventually premiered May 18 and Part Two May 25 2005.
