Ayesha continued. She said she left the bedroom and found one of the adults, Oni, laying in on the corridor, bleeding and struggling to breathe. She did her best to bring Oni to the infirmary, but she had no idea how to stop her bleeding or help her in any way. She said she panicked.
The traders looked at one another. They knew that the rimworlds were dangerous places, but it wasn't every day that they saw a town suffer such a brutal attack from pirates - specially one that left most of the colony intact.
They pieced together that the colony was probably overwhelmed, with all the adults being downed and kidnapped. The thrumbo they saw early was probably the last defense they had, and scared off the raiders before it went down.
Well. They decided to spend the rest of the day in the colony. They tried to keep Ayesha company and calm her down - the girl clearly had suffered a lot of trauma after seeing her home destroyed, unable to help her friends. They decided they would take Ayesha back to their homeland and give her a new home.
The little girl nodded. She felt that every moment in this place would only make those painful memories keep hurting her. But what she felt was anger and guilt. Anger at the pirates who killed her family and destroyed her home. Guilt at herself, for not being able to help them - not even Oni, who languished in the infirmary, bleeding to death.
Ayesha swore that she would make up for it. She would make the Wasters go through the same hell they put her through.
