I got tired of losing thoughts while waiting for Notion to load… so I built my own app.

I kept losing ideas because every note-taking app made me stop, click around, wait, and think about the app instead of the thought.

By the time Notion launched, the idea was gone.

So I built this tiny macOS overlay app: Unfriction → https://unfriction.app

Opens in <400ms
Pops up with one shortcut
OCR built in (screenshots to text instantly)
Hides itself when I’m done, like it never existed

Since building it, I’ve taken 156 tiny notes in 2 weeks, thoughts I would’ve absolutely lost before.

Not selling anything - it is free for now.
I just want feedback from people who actually get the problem:

What would make this actually usable for someone with ADHD?

reminders?
tagging?
audio input?
AI summarizing chaos into structured notes

If this helps even ONE other distracted brain, worth it.

What's New in Tower Git Client (v15)

Hey folks,

As fans of r/macapps ourselves, we understand that many of you are developers and/or interested in productivity. We hope you find this relevant!

We have just released version 15 of Tower, our feature-packed native Git client. In addition to full macOS 26 (Tahoe) support, we have added the following new features:

1. Shiny new "merged" and "stale" badges to easily view and act on branches that have either been fully merged or haven't seen any activity for a while, helping to keep your repository clutter-free.

2. Branch archiving, allowing you to drag and drop any branch into a new section to keep it out of sight. Tower can also handle this automatically for you.

3. The addition of the "Fork Point," enabling you to easily visualize where the branch diverged from its parent and which new commits have been introduced (pre-divergence commits are now grayed out).

In addition to these features, we offer many others exclusive to Tower, such as support for Stacked Branches (including Graphite compatibility), customizable branching workflows (allowing you to create your own git-flow or similar), commit templates, drag-and-drop for interactive rebase operations, and an Undo feature using CMD+Z.

Timemator Alternatives?

I really like Timemator, but I noticed there doesn't seem to be much activity the last few months, and ~~little~~ no response to support emails. Are there any good alternatives that are similar?

1) I like how it tracks what apps I'm using, and I can assign them to categories.

2) I like the auto-assign task function (however, it feels a little buggy).

AKA I'm looking for something that actively track my activities for minute/hourly billing, rather than something that I manually have to keep track of myself.

Apps I was not uninstalling and maybe I did ?

Many people ask which of the apps I raved about during the year is still running on my computer. Many were indeed uninstalled, and as the year comes to an end, it was time for a stocktake.

New or slightly used apps that have passed first impressions and stayed include:

Bye \- Here is an app fresh from the farm, just found it a day ago, and I love it. Tired of qntl-Q? Simply click the hand in the menu bar, then close the apps you want. This is a very visual quick quitting app and doesn’t require scrolling down a list. Give it a try, I love it.

CCCCorners — I previously mentioned an app similar to CCCCorners, but could never get it to work. Here is a great app and a brilliant, easy-to-use method of navigating with screen corners. I love this app because Mac comes with the same functionality by default, but it’s so limited that I can’t understand why they even include it.

Ordinator — an old Mac app where I am not sure when it last saw its developer, but it still works perfectly. Strange name for an app that changes icons. This is a folder and app icon changer that’s a one-click process. As always, system apps like Mirroring, Finder, and others won’t change. If anyone has a solution for the operating system icons, please share.

Mousecape — another app that has endured over time. Mousecape isn’t new or revolutionary, but it is now finally compatible with Tahoe. If you’re not fond of the default navigational cursor, it provides a convenient solution. I’ve been using the White Glove shortcut shared on Reddit many years ago.

BuhoLaunchpad \- missing the Launchpad? There are so many new Launchpad apps that I think this could be a post of its own, but Buho Software has just released a very nice Launchpad app that updates in real time, something many other Launchpad apps fail to do.

Apps I found replacements for — sorry, it’s me:

Coherence X \- great app, but it costs money, so does Webcatalog, and Webcatalog seems to meet my needs better.

Udock \- has been replaced by BuhoLaunchpad; please share your favourites. This market is filled with really great new apps.

Apps I kept because they matched the label:
Availability Sync Menu Bar \- you will know if you need this app, but if you do, this is brilliant. Its function is to quickly send a list of available times to a client, and it does just that. It’s been doing this on my computer for 3 years, and it’s not going away.

Pearcleaner \- territory that gets people heated. If you’re looking for a basic "drag and drop uninstaller" that removes all files, there are other options. This is where Pearcleaner starts and then does so much more. If you’re a seasoned Mac user, this app is great, but if you’re new or have very important non-backup documents, stay away and don’t blame the developer. It’s a good app.

Sentinel \- from the same developer as Pearcleaner, and again very specific in what it does. If you hate navigating the system's menu because your software has arrived from an unknown developer, this solves that problem. As a Reddit app downloader, I find this app incredible.

Barrel \- love formatting or maybe you need to format your Mac often? You know this is a tedious task, very easily solved with Barrel. A lovely app that only recently appeared on Reddit. Create a Barrel, format the computer and reinstall the barrel file, and you are back in a very short time.

Dory \- quick
navigation with dock-like precision made easy and beautiful. I could suggest a few additional functions, but it’s a lovely app and for quick launchers this is a must have.

Dockflow \- Here is a very quick and simple way to customise the dock exactly as you want it. Why not have a work, home, and Leisure dock? I love the app.

Extradock \- from the developers of Dockflow, comes Extradock. You might wonder how many docks you really need well this is quickly answered when you realise how handy an extra dock or two can be.

Apps I want to uninstall... but not today.

Social Watch \- there are so many apps that do social media, and I am simply not on social media enough. Great app, but it takes up a lot of hard drive space.

Silenz — lovely app and very handy for the right people. This is volume adjustment on Mac done for you. I only listen to radio, and this means the app is essentially just running in the background

Liquid Timer — lovely app, but I never have a need for it.

All the legal stuff: -
There are a few “app store” purchases listed above, and I can happily say that they either come with a fixed fee or are completely free. This is not a “free for three days if you press the button for a ten-year subnoscription backdated for two months” Mac store app, but rather decent working apps.

And for the Human AI detectors, sorry, wrong again. This post took three hours of my time, dedication, a love for software, an appreciation for all the developers who share so freely on Reddit, and the enjoyment of the forum to make it happen. I would love to claim AI or sponsorship, but one is never that lucky!!!- O.K., put down the gun, I used a spell checker !!!!!

If you have the next best app - I will love to test it ;-)
