Timemator Alternatives?
I really like Timemator, but I noticed there doesn't seem to be much activity the last few months, and ~~little~~ no response to support emails. Are there any good alternatives that are similar?
1) I like how it tracks what apps I'm using, and I can assign them to categories.
2) I like the auto-assign task function (however, it feels a little buggy).
AKA I'm looking for something that actively track my activities for minute/hourly billing, rather than something that I manually have to keep track of myself.

Apps I was not uninstalling and maybe I did ?
Many people ask which of the apps I raved about during the year is still running on my computer. Many were indeed uninstalled, and as the year comes to an end, it was time for a stocktake.
New or slightly used apps that have passed first impressions and stayed include:
Bye \- Here is an app fresh from the farm, just found it a day ago, and I love it. Tired of qntl-Q? Simply click the hand in the menu bar, then close the apps you want. This is a very visual quick quitting app and doesn’t require scrolling down a list. Give it a try, I love it.
CCCCorners — I previously mentioned an app similar to CCCCorners, but could never get it to work. Here is a great app and a brilliant, easy-to-use method of navigating with screen corners. I love this app because Mac comes with the same functionality by default, but it’s so limited that I can’t understand why they even include it.
Ordinator — an old Mac app where I am not sure when it last saw its developer, but it still works perfectly. Strange name for an app that changes icons. This is a folder and app icon changer that’s a one-click process. As always, system apps like Mirroring, Finder, and others won’t change. If anyone has a solution for the operating system icons, please share.
Mousecape — another app that has endured over time. Mousecape isn’t new or revolutionary, but it is now finally compatible with Tahoe. If you’re not fond of the default navigational cursor, it provides a convenient solution. I’ve been using the White Glove shortcut shared on Reddit many years ago.
BuhoLaunchpad \- missing the Launchpad? There are so many new Launchpad apps that I think this could be a post of its own, but Buho Software has just released a very nice Launchpad app that updates in real time, something many other Launchpad apps fail to do.
Apps I found replacements for — sorry, it’s me:
Coherence X \- great app, but it costs money, so does Webcatalog, and Webcatalog seems to meet my needs better.
Udock \- has been replaced by BuhoLaunchpad; please share your favourites. This market is filled with really great new apps.
Apps I kept because they matched the label:
Availability Sync Menu Bar \- you will know if you need this app, but if you do, this is brilliant. Its function is to quickly send a list of available times to a client, and it does just that. It’s been doing this on my computer for 3 years, and it’s not going away.
Pearcleaner \- territory that gets people heated. If you’re looking for a basic "drag and drop uninstaller" that removes all files, there are other options. This is where Pearcleaner starts and then does so much more. If you’re a seasoned Mac user, this app is great, but if you’re new or have very important non-backup documents, stay away and don’t blame the developer. It’s a good app.
Sentinel \- from the same developer as Pearcleaner, and again very specific in what it does. If you hate navigating the system's menu because your software has arrived from an unknown developer, this solves that problem. As a Reddit app downloader, I find this app incredible.
Barrel \- love formatting or maybe you need to format your Mac often? You know this is a tedious task, very easily solved with Barrel. A lovely app that only recently appeared on Reddit. Create a Barrel, format the computer and reinstall the barrel file, and you are back in a very short time.
Dory \- quick

navigation with dock-like precision made easy and beautiful. I could suggest a few additional functions, but it’s a lovely app and for quick launchers this is a must have.
Dockflow \- Here is a very quick and simple way to customise the dock exactly as you want it. Why not have a work, home, and Leisure dock? I love the app.
Extradock \- from the developers of Dockflow, comes Extradock. You might wonder how many docks you really need well this is quickly answered when you realise how handy an extra dock or two can be.
Apps I want to uninstall... but not today.
Social Watch \- there are so many apps that do social media, and I am simply not on social media enough. Great app, but it takes up a lot of hard drive space.
Silenz — lovely app and very handy for the right people. This is volume adjustment on Mac done for you. I only listen to radio, and this means the app is essentially just running in the background
Liquid Timer — lovely app, but I never have a need for it.
All the legal stuff: -
There are a few “app store” purchases listed above, and I can happily say that they either come with a fixed fee or are completely free. This is not a “free for three days if you press the button for a ten-year subnoscription backdated for two months” Mac store app, but rather decent working apps.
And for the Human AI detectors, sorry, wrong again. This post took three hours of my time, dedication, a love for software, an appreciation for all the developers who share so freely on Reddit, and the enjoyment of the forum to make it happen. I would love to claim AI or sponsorship, but one is never that lucky!!!- O.K., put down the gun, I used a spell checker !!!!!
If you have the next best app - I will love to test it ;-)

Black Friday Sale: Protego for Reddit - 50% Off
Hey everyone! I've been working on Protego, a Safari Web Extension that helps you filter unwanted content on Reddit, and I'm running a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale from **November 27 - December 6** with **50% off** (down to $0.99 from $1.99).
# What is Protego?
Protego is a Safari Web Extension that runs on the Reddit website (not the app) and gives you control over what content you see. If you enjoy using Reddit for your hobbies and interests but find yourself constantly bombarded with politics, specific current events, or news about certain individuals, Protego lets you filter that stuff out so you can focus on what you actually came to Reddit for.
A lot of people who use Protego with the Reddit website end up uninstalling the official Reddit app entirely. The combination of filtering control plus browsing on the web means no ads in your feed, no nagging to create an account when browsing logged out, and no constant stream of distracting notifications trying to pull you back in.
# Key Features
* **Keyword filtering with wildcard support** \- Block posts containing specific words or phrases (e.g., `*election*`, `*crypto*`)
* **Domain blocking** \- Filter out posts from specific websites
* **Works on old and new Reddit** \- Compatible with both layouts
* **Hide promoted content** \- Blocks ads and sponsored posts
* **Clean up the interface** \- Option to hide "Open in App" banners and other clutter
* **Real-time filtering** \- No page reloads needed, filters apply instantly as you scroll

# Platform Support
This is a Safari Web Extension, so it works across:
* macOS
* iOS
* iPadOS
* visionOS

# Why I Built This
I wanted Reddit to be a place where I could discuss my interests without being pulled into topics that drain my energy. Whether it's filtering out political discussions, certain subreddits leaking into your feed, or just reducing noise from specific domains, having that control makes Reddit significantly more enjoyable and productive.

Might be dumb, but is there an app that organizes and makes it easy to fast to launch all your apps?
Edit: Solved. But I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
I'm going ham with all these Black Friday Mac app deals, but the problem is now my menu bar is pretty full. The icons are also not super obvious, so clicking the correct one takes a sec.
Is there an app or an easier way to organize/launch/find my mac apps? Or am I just stupid and need to learn how to find the correct app.

I warn you against the GoodLinks promotion
>https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/comments/1p7r858/if\_youre\_going\_to\_have\_a\_subnoscription\_this\_is\_how/
Recently u/GhostofPanda wrote a promotional post about their app or in order to get a premium account for themselves for free. I've seen his strange posts and comments more than once, which he usually deleted. In addition, instead of writing that it was different from what I wrote, he preferred to write a comment and block me like a rat, thinking that on my side I would see it as if he had deleted the post, but he forgot that I can see it anyway ;)
No, Ghost, the fact that you replied to me and blocked me does not mean that I agree with you. By replying and blocking me, you only confirmed the fact that you are promoting the app on this subreddit and not stating it clearly - you are simply breaking the rules.
Be careful what he writes, because he may be lying, as he has done many times before.

Use Backup Loupe to Make Time Machine More Powerful and User Friendly
Everyone need a backup plan. The more complex your workflow is, the more complex your backup strategy will become. I use a combination of cloud services ([Koofr](https://appaddict.app/post/koofr-european-based-cloud-storage-provider-with-a-generous-free-tier) and kDrive) and syncing across multiple devices (two Mac Laptops, two Linux workstations and a self-hosted server/NAS) with [FreeFileSync](https://appaddict.app/post/two-recommendations-for-syncing-utilities), [Syncthing](https://appaddict.app/post/syncthing-free-and-open-source-cross-platform-file-sharing) and [SmartBackup](https://appaddict.app/post/smartbackup-free-fast-and-foolproof). But, the base of my plan is the native macOS backup app, Time Machine. An Internet friend recently suggested an addition to my plan, [Backup Loupe by Soma-Zone Software,](https://www.soma-zone.com/BackupLoupe/) and after evaluating it, I happily paid full price ($33.53) for a license.
# What It Is, What It Does
[Backup Loupe](https://preview.redd.it/rorlgxh3cs3g1.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=23e6038e8ffb427c35f82e180f08a77dd1445fa2)
BackupLoupe is a "front-end / analysis / browsing" tool for backups made by Time Machine. Rather than being a replacement backup engine, it helps you *inspect, analyze, and restore* files from your Time Machine snapshots in a far more transparent way than the stock Time Machine provides. Point it at a backup volume (local drive, external drive, or NAS), and it lists all snapshots (backups), shows their timestamps, and lets you explore each snapshot to view the backed-up files/folders, including their sizes, dates, and changes over time. Basically BackupLoupe gives you insight into your backup history, what changed, what's large, what's redundant, in a way Time Machine alone doesn't.
* **Visibility & transparency of backups.** You know what was backed up, when, and the size of each snapshot, helping you spot large backups that consume space.
* **Easy file recovery.** Browse snapshot contents and restore files/folders easily, providing a safeguard if Time Machine fails.
* **Snapshot-level granularity.** View file versions over time, tracking when changes occurred or restoring older versions.
* **Search & filtering.** Quickly search by name/path/size/type, saving time compared to Time Machine's Finder UI.
* **Support for multiple backup disks/hosts.** BackupLoupe manages external drives, NAS, and multiple Macs backing up to the same drive.
* **Space-management insights.** Identify large backups and exclude directories to control backup drive growth.
* **Compatibility and native builds.** The app supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs and works on modern macOS versions.
# Caveats
Backup Loupe is not without its quirks.
* No native way to merge backups or folders when restoring.
* No deletion of individual snapshots from within BackupLoupe. You'll have to use the Finder or native Time Machine interface.
* Scanning can be slow, especially for large backup histories or NAS-based backups.
* Changes to Time Machine backups after launching BackupLoupe may not show up without restarting/rescanning.
* UI / UX is functional but dated.
* Not a full backup manager. It complements Time Machine rather than replaces it.
Make no mistake, Backup Loupe is definitely a power user tool, not a smooth, commercial instrument for new or inexperienced users. It won't replace your broader solution but it gives you a human-friendly, detailed lens on what Time Machine is doing. It might help you spot inefficiencies, unnecessary disk usage, or orphaned backups.

I am in the process of de-Googling. I already moved my email to Fastmail. I changed my default search engine to Kagi. I am moving my photographs to Ente. Today, I took advantage of an ongoing sale at Stack Social to purchase a lifetime deal on 1 TB of cloud…
I made an app to Quit All Apps with one click on macOS
I’ve always liked starting fresh on my Mac, but doing it manually meant going through each open app one by one. I also didn’t want anything heavy or complicated running in the background just to close apps.
To fix that, I built Quit All Apps. It sits in the menu bar and lets me quit everything instantly with one or two clicks (depending on my settings). It sends a regular quit request to each app, the same type of signal you’d trigger yourself when quitting apps normally, so anything with unsaved work still asks you to save or cancel.
There are a few extra things I found useful while building it. You can use the keyboard shortcut Control Option Command Q to quit everything. You can also open a Bulk Quit window with Control Option Command B, where you can pick which apps you want to close at that moment. There is an option to minimize all apps with Control Option Command M as well.
Some apps I never want closed, so there is an Exclude Apps list. There are also a couple of simple settings, like disabling 1-click quit (to prevent accidental quitting) and hiding the menu bar icon (if you only want to use the keyboard shortcuts and reduce screen clutter).
The app is free for now because I want feedback while I keep improving it. It will cost a couple of dollars later on.
Here is the download link if you want to try it: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/quit-all-apps/id6752781428?mt=12

Exclude apps from being quit \(or minimized\) by the app
Bulk quit apps
Minimize all apps witg Control + Option + Command + M \(or right-click the menu bar icon to find this action\)
Right click the menu bar icon \(or use command + Option + Control + S\) to access the app settings. You can hide the menu bar icon \(if you only use the keyboard shortcuts\), enable\/disable 1-click quit, open at login and enable\/disable keyboard shortcuts and more.
Please let me know if you are missing any features or if you have other ideas for improvement! I have a long list of new features planned ahead.
Code disclaimer: I’m primarily a WordPress developer and this is my first public Mac app. It’s not vibe coded, but I did use the built-in ChatGPT integration in Xcode to troubleshoot and refine parts of the code. But the vast part of the app is coded the old school way.
