❗️ Eight years ago, on March 18, 2014, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Crimea signed the Agreement on the Accession of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation and on Forming New Constituent Entities within the Russian Federation. The Crimean people had not been broken by the threats of Ukrainian nationalists and neo-Nazis, and voted for reunification with Russia in a referendum on March 16, 2014.

To understand why the Crimeans made this choice, we need to recall the history of Crimea, its significance for Russia, and Russia’s significance for Crimea.
