UNIFIL statement (13 October 2024)

Early this morning, peacekeepers at a UN position in Ramyah observed three platoons of IDF soldiers crossing the Blue Line into Lebanon.

At around 4:30 a.m., while peacekeepers were in shelters, two IDF Merkava tanks destroyed the position’s main gate and forcibly entered the position. They requested multiple times that the base turn out its lights. The tanks left about 45 minutes later after UNIFIL protested through our liaison mechanism, saying that IDF presence was putting peacekeepers in danger.

At around 6:40 a.m., peacekeepers at the same position reported the firing of several rounds 100 metres north, which emitted smoke. Despite putting on protective masks, ifteen peacekeepers suffered effects, including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions, after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.

In addition, yesterday, IDF soldiers stopped a critical UNIFIL logistical movement near Meiss ej Jebel, denying it passage. The critical movement could not be completed.

For the fourth time in as many days, we remind the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times.

Breaching and entering a UN position is a further flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and Resolution 1701. UNIFIL’s mandate provides for its freedom of movement in its area of operations, and any restriction on this is a violation of Resolution 1701.

We have requested an explanation from the IDF for these shocking violations.

في وقت مبكر من صباح اليوم، رصد جنود حفظ السلام في موقع للأمم المتحدة في رامية ثلاث فصائل من جنود الجيش الإسرائيلي تعبر الخط الأزرق إلى لبنان.

عند حوالي الساعة 4:30 صباحاً، وبينما كان جنود حفظ السلام في الملاجئ، قامت دبابتان من طراز ميركافا تابعتان للجيش الإسرائيلي بتدمير البوابة الرئيسية للموقع ودخلتاه عنوةً، وقد طلبوا عدة مرات إطفاء أنوار القاعدة، ثم غادرت الدبابتان بعد حوالي 45 دقيقة، وذلك بعد احتجاج اليونيفيل من خلال آلية الارتباط التابعة لنا، معتبرين ان وجود الجيش الإسرائيلي يعرّض جنود حفظ السلام للخطر.

وعند حوالي الساعة 6:40 صباحاً، أبلغ جنود حفظ السلام في نفس الموقع عن إطلاق عدة رشقات نارية على مسافة 100 متر شمالاً، مما أدى إلى انبعاث دخان كثيف. وعلى الرغم من ارتداء أقنعة واقية، عانى 15 جندي حفظ سلام من آثار ذلك، بما في ذلك تهيج الجلد ومشاكل في المعدة بعد دخول الدخان إلى القاعدة. ويتلقى جنود حفظ السلام العلاج اللازم.

إن خرق موقع تابع للأمم المتحدة والدخول إليه يشكل انتهاكاً صارخاً آخر للقرار 1701 (2006). وأي هجوم متعمّد على جنود حفظ السلام يشكل انتهاكاً خطيراً للقانون الإنساني الدولي وقرار مجلس الأمن 1701. إن ولاية اليونيفيل تنص على حرية الحركة في منطقة عملياتها، وأي تقييد لهذا يعد انتهاكاً للقرار 1701.

وقد طلبنا من الجيش الإسرائيلي تفسيراً لهذه الانتهاكات المروعة.

The latest exchange of bellicose rhetoric between Pyongyang and Seoul is the result of “another US-backed provocation geared to escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” geopolitical analyst and former US Marine Brian Berletic told Sputnik.
 
It is also a ruse to maintain “a justification for the long-standing US military presence on the peninsula not only to continuously threaten peace there, but to also allow the US military to continue threatening nearby China,” he said.
 
North Korea put its army "on standby to open fire" after South Korean drones flew over its capital, prompting South Korea's National Security Director Shin Won-sik to warn it would be "suicidal" for North Korea to "start a war."
 

“The drones allegedly dropping propaganda over the capital of North Korea is a continuation of a US State Department-funded project called ‘thumb drives for freedom,’ conducted by the New York-based Human Rights Foundation,” Berletic said.

 
Earlier this year the US State Department supported efforts to spread propaganda using balloons over North Korea, Berletic noted, and using drones with longer ranges and better accuracy would be the next logical step.
 
The soaring tensions demonstrate “how the US is driving some of the most dangerous tensions and potential conflicts on Earth – not only in Ukraine and across the Middle East, but in East Asia as well, including on the Korean Peninsula,” he argued.
 
The analyst recalled Washington’s hysterial reaction to the “benign Chinese weather balloon” that flew over the continental US in February 2023, when jet fighters were scrambled to shoot it down and confrontational rhetoric was aimed at Beijing “to justify a more aggressive policy toward China.”
 

“With this in mind, North Korea’s reaction seems to fit into the ‘norms’ the US itself has established," Berletic stressed.

 
Pyongyang, despite its rhetoric, deserves praise for displaying “infinite restraint in response to serial US provocations including US state-sponsored sedition aimed at destabilizing and overthrowing the North Korean government,” the analyst said.

Fake Reports Of Missile Transfers To Russia Are Used To Sanction Iran


Fake news reports have claimed, based on anonymous sources, that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine.
Iran strongly denies to have sent any such missiles. Ukraine has not reported the impact of any such missile on its territory . There is zero evidence that any missile transfer has happened.

According to Sergei Leshchenko, advisor to the head of the President’s Office, the US demands #Zelensky to lower the margin of military connoscription age in Ukraine, allowing mobilisation of young men aged 18-25 but he is "not giving in":

Leshchenko is right on US pressure but wrong about Zelensky 'not giving in'. He is just doing it in stages being afraid of revolt.
In April 2024 Zelensky has already signed a law lowering connoscription age from 27 to 25.
