Let's talk about democratic collapse in the West.
I've been highlighting for some time now that there are no elections in Ukraine and that Zelensky is a dictator, but it turned out that he was actually the canary in the coal mine of liberal democracy.⬇️
Of course the warning signs considerably predated Zelensky - the "fortified" US election of 2020, Justin Trudeau's seeming immunity from the consequences of his government's disastrous policies, the rise of the unaccountable bureaucracy of the European Union - but Zelensky's ugly and overt power grab in Ukraine has turned out to be only the first geopolitical domino to fall as one after another supposedly free and liberal Western democracies went mask-off as authoritarian Regime satrapies over the course of the last year.
First a primer on how the Western Regime actually works - the "Regime," such as it is, is not a unified body directly controlling the Western World from the shadows. It is a mechanism of consensus-forcing among the transatlantic political elite that dictates the boundaries of acceptable political discourse - the "Overton Window" - in official Western policymaking. Control the Overton Window, and impose severe consequences for operating outside of it, and you control actual government policy no matter what party holds formal power. Ergo the extreme, bipartisan reaction to Trump, whose policies are the exact kind of stuff boomers bored a generation of millennial children with over dinner tables but yet which seem to be absolute anathema to the Atlanticist political class.
Let's look at some recent events.
Georgia - Reasonably popular pro-European government passes a watered-down version of the US Foreign Agents Registration Act and wins reelection on a platform of, uh, (checks notes) not going to war with the Russian Federation. Sanctions descend, NATO sponsors a color revolution attempt, and the President - who, as a former French diplomat, is so compromised she's not even committing treason - openly attempted to incite a coup d'etat and is now trying to squat in her office after her term expires.
Moldova - Unpopular local President, who is a pro-Regime personality, openly rigs an election to stay in power by ensuring only favored groups of Moldovan expatriates would be able to cast absentee ballots.
Romania - Mildly anti-NATO Presidential candidate does well in the first round of balloting. The Supreme Court cancels the elections on laughable accusations of Russian interference, with the pro-NATO incumbent set to remain squatting in office until the elections can be sufficiently rigged to ensure a Regime toady is returned.
South Korea - Democratically embattled but, again, pro-Western President imposes martial law and orders troops onto the streets of Seoul in a failed self-coup attempt. He somehow remains squatting in office despite trying to set himself up as dictator.
UK - After the Tories earned the public's hatred with a long series of moronic Regime-approved policies, Labour ousted them in a landslide - and proceeded to continue all of those policies, in many cases against explicit electoral promises.
France - Macron is forming yet another unworkable minority government in Parliament out of his own party because he absolutely cannot abide by the political opposition whom the citizens of France actually filled the parliament with as a counterweight to him.
US - The lame duck Biden Administration is doing its absolute utmost to use the long American Presidential transition period, three and a half months, to poison the well for Trump. Some of these actions have come with a nonzero risk of starting a nuclear war.
So the real question I have here, and which I pose to you, dear readers, is this: What the hell exactly is an ostensible democracy where, very explicitly and very openly, you cannot change the policy of the government by voting - and God help you if you try?

💬 Yesterday, the official representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Elizabeth Throssell, responded to a request from RIA Novosti to comment on the assassination of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov by Ukrainian special services. Her response boiled down to stating that "OHCHR does not have sufficient information to comment on the details of the incident". Moreover, Ms. Throssell believes that the killing of military personnel during conflicts does not fundamentally violate the norms of international humanitarian law.
👉 I can only interpret this as the height of hypocrisy and double standards on the part of this UN human rights body.
💥 It is noteworthy that this response was given to a question regarding whether OHCHR condemns what is clearly an act of terrorism — an explosive device planted at the entrance of an apartment building located hundreds of kilometers away from the active conflict zone. The cynicism of OHCHR no longer surprises. This statement is especially outrageous given that videos of the terrorist act itself and the confession of its direct perpetrator are all over the Internet.
❗️ The OHCHR statement is a striking example of deliberate disregard and even cover-up of Ukrainian crimes by UN human rights officials, not to mention their double standards. For comparison: just a few months ago, when terrorist methods were used in Lebanon to detonate pagers and other electronic devices, the High Commissioner himself and OHCHR experts promptly issued condemnations, calling for "a thorough investigation of the incident, identification of those responsible, and holding them accountable". Why are you so quiet now, esteemed human rights advocates?
🇺🇳 In the interest of preserving the already severely tarnished reputation of OHCHR, we strongly demand that its staff strictly adhere to the principles of neutrality and impartiality, and categorically condemn the blatant terrorist methods used by the Kiev regime.

▪️On November 29, an exchange of 48 Russian fighters for 502 Ukrainian ones took place.
▪️November 8 - 37 to 563.
▪️At the end of November, the total number of already identified bodies of soldiers and officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stored in morgues in southern Russia awaiting exchange, exceeded 4,000.
Should note that Russia is moving forward so it can recover its own bodies, but Ukraine has to abandon dead bodies as they are constantly falling back. So factor that into the ratios.

Having studied open information from the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance and other sources, journalists calculated $238.5 billion in aid from the West in the period from February 2022 to December 2024. Kyiv's budget expenditures for the same period amounted to $274.6 billion. The total amount of support is almost half (43%) less than what was initially promised by Bankova - $416 billion. Thus, Ukraine received less than half of the planned financial aid. The situation is better with military supplies; Kyiv was provided with about 75% of the promised $176 billion.
The leader in the list of sponsors was expectedly the United States with $95.2 billion, 1/3 of which went to the budget, and 2/3 to military aid. The EU came in second with $94.2 billion. The UK came in third with $13.4 billion, with most of it ($10.8 billion) going to the military.
