#Trump #Greenland

By @HaraldDoornbos (X)

Trump eyeing Greenland? It must be a joke, many people think. I suspect Trump is serious. He is simply going to offer each resident $1 million. What would such a "roadmap" to US takeover of Greenland look like? I will explain below:
1/ What did Trump actually say? "For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity."
2/ But Denmark has already said that something like that is out of the question? Well, tough luck for Denmark, but since 2009 the Danes no longer decide whether Greenland remains part of Denmark.
3/ Why? Greenland is a so-called "autonomous area" within the Kingdom of Denmark. In 2008, they held a referendum in Greenland on whether or not to have more autonomy. 75% of the population voted yes. That is why a "Greenland Self Government Act" was introduced in 2009. This act EXPLICITLY states that Greenland can become independent from Denmark after a referendum where a simple majority is enough.
4/ Who actually lives in Greenland? About 55,000 people, 85% are ethnic Inuit. Most people hunt or fish or are active in the fur industry. Also tourism, construction and education. Average salary about 3,000 euros (after taxes about 2,000 euros).
5/ But can Trump just take Greenland? There are several possibilities. America can increase the economic and military pressure on Denmark. But honestly, I don't see that happening.
6/ What then? A lot of money. The Trump administration is going to start negotiations with the leaders of the Inuit population. Each Inuit gets 1 million dollars per person. So an average family of four literally gets four million dollars. In exchange for such a huge amount, the Inuit population will then organize a referendum in which a large majority will vote for independence. After gaining independence, independent Greenland then decides to join the United States of America.
7/ But that's impossible, right? Really? There are about 45,000 Inuit living in Greenland. If each person gets 1 million dollars, that will cost the US 45 billion dollars. A lot of money. But for comparison: America has spent no less than 175 billion (!) dollars on aid to Ukraine since February 2022. So 45 billion is only a quarter of that amount. Not a bad share for the Inuit either. They will all become millionaires and get an American passport instead of a Danish one. Try saying no to that. And there will definitely be rules negotiated with the Americans about the protection of the Inuit and their special culture.
8/ But this is madness, you can't be serious?! Yes, it could very well be, get used to it already.

#UK gas storages dangerously low

UK gas storage levels are “concerningly low,” with less than a week of gas demand in store due to the recent cold snap and halt of Russian gas transits - Centrica
The current inventory at Rough, the country’s largest gas storage site is 20% lower than at the same time last year.
UK’s gas storage is under pressure this winter as the country battles both freezing weather & soaring energy prices. The colder-than-usual temperatures combined with #Ukraine’s decision to no longer transit Russian gas have depleted gas inventories across UK
The situation is “echoed across Europe,” specifying that as of January 7, European storage was at 69% capacity, down from 84% at the same time the previous year.
European energy prices have soared following Ukraine’s refusal to extend a contract with Russia’s Gazprom beyond 2024.
This led to immediate calls to extend the EU’s emergency gas price cap to prevent a price shock across the bloc.

The CIA can read your WhatsApp messages.

Mark Zuckerberg spoke on Joe Rogan's podcast about the censorship initiated by Democrats after the 2016 elections.

The most important points:

- Censorship began to develop after Trump, when Democrats decided that his victory was the result of misinformation on social media;

- Meta* moderation quickly moved from fighting flat-Earth theories to political censorship, reminiscent of the situation in the book "1984";

- During the pandemic, the Biden administration required information about vaccine side effects to be removed;

- Biden blamed Meta for people's deaths due to spreading misinformation about coronavirus;

- American intelligence agencies can read WhatsApp correspondence, although the company itself cannot see it.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on reports that hundreds of prisoners have been mobilized to extinguish fires in the US state of California, pointed to the hypocrisy of the United States.

US officials have repeatedly criticized China for allegedly using forced labor, particularly in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The diplomat noted that in 2023, Washington restricted imports of products from several Chinese companies in an attempt to exclude goods allegedly produced with the help of Uygur forced labor from the US supply chain. "This raises a logical question: will Congress draft a bill imposing sanctions on California authorities, private companies, and ordinary Americans for using prison labor to put out fires?" she wondered. "We are so sick of this hypocrisy!" Zakharova added.

#Poland. Hiding military equipment in civilian infrastructure.

Anti-Tank mines discovered at IKEA warehouse in Poland

the mines were originally misplaced back in the summer of 2024. Military personnel stationed near Szczecin were unloading a train carrying military equipment when several crates containing anti-tank mines were inadvertently left behind. These crates were subsequently transported elsewhere, eventually being located at an IKEA distribution center.

Four Polish soldiers face charges of neglect of duty, prosecutors said on Friday, after the army lost track of 240 anti-tank mines in July, which were later found in a train wagon near a warehouse belonging to Swedish furniture retailer IKEA.

Ukrainian special forces GUR ambush and kill civilians trying to leave Novoyelizavetovka near Pokrovsk (to cross the contact line into Russian-held territory); post the footage to brag about it.
The Ukrainian soldiers who did this knew they were civilians, those who edited the footage also knew it and this is why they blurred the zoom. Still decided to post it publicly.
