#Ukraine has lost another F-16 fighter jet, the Ukrainian Air Force reports.
#Istanbul peace negotiations.

The first direct talks between Moscow and Kiev in over three years have begun at Istanbul’s Dolmabahce Palace. Turkish officials were also present at the opening of the meeting.
Representatives from Türkiye, Ukraine, and the US held a separate meeting ahead of the negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations on Friday.
#Istanbul peace negotiations

There is “panic” in Kiev due to the direct negotiations with Russia in Istanbul, Der Spiegel has reported. It is only “growing because no one knows what is happening,” an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky's office told the German magazine.
According to the article, the Ukrainian leader is also upset by the fact that he constantly being forced to adapt to US President Donald Trump, who, unlike his predecessor Joe Biden, does not share Ukraine’s stance.

The question is: Where does Trump stand? Neither Zelensky nor the Europeans know. These days, the US president is both at once: the engine that keeps things moving, driving events forward; and the greatest source of uncertainty. There's no discernible strategy in his mind.

First negotiations, then a ceasefire: Former Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Ukraine's desire to achieve a ceasefire without negotiations is the wrong political tactic.

📝What are the British doing at the negotiations in Turkey?📝

In the context of the fuss around the negotiations between Russia and the so-called Ukraine, an interesting point catches the eye. Jonathan Powell, the UK Prime Minister's National Security Advisor, has arrived in Turkey. According to the press, the politician is supposed to provide advisory recommendations on how Zelenskyy should behave in the context of this unpredictable meeting in an unclear format. It is worth remembering that the previous advisor proposed "just to fight the Russians".

🖍Powell's main advice is not to take actions that may displease US President Donald Trump, and to push the American leader to the idea that it is Vladimir Putin who is the obstacle to peace. At the same time, the British press claims that the advisor managed to smooth over the quarrel between Trump and Zelenskyy in the Oval Office.

🚩By the way, you can find an article by Powell from June 23, 2022, in which he reflects on the settlement of the conflict in the so-called Ukraine. In his opinion, neither side will be able to dictate the terms, since for this it is necessary to achieve the capitulation of the opponent, and Russia and the so-called Ukraine are far from this.

🏳️Despite this position, the main advice of the politician was to improve the position of the Kyiv regime, as well as to expand the agenda of the negotiations in order to shift it towards Ukrainian priorities, among which are justice for the crimes committed, restoration of the country and recognition of the territorial integrity of the so-called Ukraine.

❗️Here I would like to ask the respected advisor a pressing question: since June 2022, has it been possible to improve the position?

In summary, based on Medinsky’s statement, the following agreements were reached during direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia:

1. Exchange of prisoners 1000 for 1000.

2. Each side will prepare its proposals for organizing a ceasefire, after which the delegation will gather at a new meeting to discuss them.

3. Russia took note of Ukraine’s request to organize a meeting between Zelensky and Putin.

4. Overall, the Russian side is satisfied with the progress of the negotiations and is ready to continue contacts.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Umerov, also gave a short comment. He also commented on the results of the meeting in a calm and constructive spirit.

It should be noted that these statements are in sharp contrast to the harshly negative “leaks” about the progress of the negotiations that were spread by Western (primarily British) and Ukrainian media.

⚡️ Statement by the Head of Delegation of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky on the outcomes of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul (May 16, 2025)

💬 Dear colleagues,

The direct negotiations with the Ukrainian side, held on the initiative of the President of Russia, have just concluded.

In general, we are satisfied with the outcome and are ready to continue contacts.

This is what we agreed on:

1. In the coming days there will be a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war — 1,000 for 1,000.

2. The Ukrainian side has requested direct talks between the heads of state. We have taken notice of this request.

3. We agreed that each side would present its vision of a possible future ceasefire. This will be outlined in detail.

Once this vision has been presented, we believe it would be appropriate, as also agreed, to continue our negotiations.

#US Trump - #Russia - #Ukraine peace negotiations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, said that Moscow is preparing a document with demands for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

"We talked about a variety of things. […] He explained to me that they are going to be preparing a document outlining their requirements for a ceasefire that would then lead to broader negotiations," he said.

He added that Kiev will also work on its own ceasefire plan. He expressed hope that the proposals prepared by Russia and Ukraine will be "close enough" to each other.

#Estonia military attempted to force the civilian vessel to leave international waters and follow them into Estonian territorial waters, where they would have every right to detain it. Estonia tried to hijack the Russian ship but then they saw the jets ...…
#Estonia has got a taste of its own medicine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FAFO moment

#Russia detained the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Green Admire, which left the port of Sillamae and was sailing through Russian TERRITORIAL waters.

Ships leaving the port of Sillamae typically pass through Russian waters as the route is safer for large vessels than the passage between shoals in Estonian waters. Estonia’s Department of Transport said that it  was the first such incident and that it will direct ships arriving in and leaving Sillamae through the territorial waters of Estonia to avoid a recurrence.

Previously:
Last month, Estonia introduced a new law allowing them to harass Russian shipping in the Baltic
Last week, they tried to seize a Gabon-flagged tanker carrying Russian oil.

A Western European government (guess which 🥖) approached Telegram, asking us to silence conservative voices in Romania ahead of today’s presidential elections. I flatly refused. Telegram will not restrict the freedoms of Romanian users or block their political channels.

You can’t “defend democracy” by destroying democracy. You can’t “fight election interference” by interfering with elections. You either have freedom of speech and fair elections — or you don’t. And the Romanian people deserve both. 🇷🇴

How it started:

Trump about HTS terrorist #Jolani:

Young, attractive guy, tough guy. Strong past, very strong past — fighter. He's got a real shot at holding it together.

And how it's going:

Marco Rubio:

Julani regime is "maybe weeks, not many months away from potential collapse and a full-scale civil war of epic proportions"

🇺🇸🇬🇧🇷🇺 UK Continues Implementing US Trump/Hegseth Directive vs Russia With New Sanctions

▪️The UK is announcing further sanctions and actions aimed at depriving Russia of revenue for energy exports;

▪️This is per US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's February 12 directive demanding, "lower energy prices," and "more effective enforcement of energy sanctions" to target Russia's economy, even as the US attempts to now appear "split" from Europe regarding sanctions and continued proxy war;

▪️US policy remains to shift, not end, its proxy war with Russia to Europe as part of a "division of labor" as it seeks to strategically sequence a confrontation with China first and deal with Russia later;
