Professor Jeffrey Sachs interview to Italian media:
Sachs: "Macron told me that the war in Ukraine is entirely NATO's fault."
Sachs revealed this significant news at the end of yesterday's highly-attended debate on the war, Ukraine, and Europe:
"Macron awarded me the Legion of Honor and told me in private what he doesn't say in public: the war is NATO's fault. I want it to be known, because this disgusts me."
Yesterday's debate—which featured Sachs, connected from the United States, Professor Alessandro Orsini, well known to our readers, and Orietta Moscatelli, a journalist and Russia expert who covers the topic for Limes—proceeded along this line. Orsini summarized his analysis, which was widely contested in 2022 and which also cost him a great deal professionally. Asked to explain the "hybrid war" Minister Guido Crosetto is talking about, the Luiss professor places it in that "marketplace of ideas" that easily fades into "propaganda and disinformation." These, he added, are widely used to explain a war in which "cardboard" Russia would have easily lost and Ukraine triumphed. "Things turned out differently," today Russia is still on the offensive, and precisely having insisted on the hypothesis of an easy victory for the West, Orsini argues, has led to a scenario in which a diplomatic solution is very difficult. "The war can only be resolved on the ground, and the Alaska summit has delayed the end of the war," because irreconcilable positions were clashed and above all because the European Union has chosen the path of the all-out militarization of Ukraine with the aim of making it a "military power." "But if that were to happen," Orsini concludes, "it would be a strategic defeat for Putin, which is why Russia would consider marching on Kiev. Moscatelli, who is preparing to return to Russia, also reiterates that Russia has been a determined and central player thus far. Regarding the drone strikes in Poland, he admits that it may have been a "Russian provocation": "But if that's the case, unfortunately it worked out well, because NATO has proven capable of barking but not biting." And the European Union is also showing its fragility with various states, each of which hopes to gain a strategic advantage from the US withdrawal from Europe and therefore inevitably clashes with all the others. Professor Sachs, however, provided the evening with a no-nonsense speech: "We are witnessing the final stage of a sick game that has been going on for 30 years," he began, recalling the final phase of the USSR, Gorbachev and Russian leaders' desire for peace while the US asked them to "get down on their knees": "The Americans are crazy, and the Europeans who follow them are crazy." Sachs spared no one, not even Trump and his pacifist ambitions: "He's ignorant, he doesn't know geography, and during his first presidency he did nothing to intervene in a war that actually began in 2014." After him, "another idiot, Biden," flanked by "even more idiotic" allies like Boris Johnson. And he didn't spare Europe either, dotted with states "who want to wage war" and cultivate an absurd "Russophobia," while the people, "starting with Italy, want peace." Orsini supports him by recalling a Censis survey according to which 67% of Italians believe the Ukrainian war is the responsibility of the West. And the Columbia professor concludes with a positive hypothesis: "Peace would be made immediately if the EU supported a neutral Ukraine, not in NATO and with a sacrifice of territory." And then he turns to Giorgia Meloni: "If Italy adopted this line, it would make it a winner in Europe and could help end the war."

A striking admission by Polish FM Sikorski at the YES conference in Kiev:
If we are providing security guarantees to Ukraine, we are saying that we can start a war against Russia. But I don’t think this is either convincing or trustworthy. If someone wants to fight Russia, they can start it right away. But I am not seeing anyone willing. There is nothing worse in international relations than providing guarantees that can’t be trusted.
Sikorsky stated that Ukraine, in his opinion, "already has guarantees, even if they are called 'assurances' in the Budapest Memorandum." If other, more specific guarantees are provided, they will not work, he is convinced.
The minister recalled that the goal of the discussed security guarantees for Ukraine is to restrain Russia from new aggression: "They say that if you attack the one to whom guarantees have been provided (that is, Ukraine – EP), we will start a war in its defense."

"But in international relations, there is nothing worse than providing guarantees that are not trusted."
Sikorski called for recognition that this is not about guarantees for Ukraine.
So NATO membership promise has been a lie all along and the so-called "coalition of the willing” has exactly zero members.

New normal in the "Rules based order" world.
Denmark will bypass more than 20 laws and regulations to allow Ukrain's company Fire Point to build a solid rocket fuel plant near Skridstrup air base.
The government will use a special law that allows it to ignore environmental and building codes for defense needs. Fire Point will also be temporarily exempted from rules on controlling the risks of major accidents.

Netanyahu told Trump in advance about Hamas delegation strike in Qatar, Israel's Channel 12 reports
——
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed US President Donald Trump last Tuesday morning that Israel was planning to strike the Hamas delegation in Qatar, shortly before the attack was carried out, according to three Israeli officials.
The White House claimed it was only notified once the missiles were already in the air, leaving Trump with no chance to oppose the strike.
Seven Israeli officials told Channel 12 that the White House was aware beforehand, even if the window to halt the operation was extremely narrow.
A senior Israeli official said: “Trump knew about the strike before the missiles were launched. First there was a political discussion between Netanyahu and Trump, and afterward through military channels. Trump didn’t say no.”
Another Israeli official said that the US was informed “with sufficient time at the political level, and had Trump wanted to stop it, he could have.”

Or irony ...
Ukraine’s language ombudsman Olena Ivanovska complains that Russian is becoming a protest language of Ukrainian teenagers and that her own daughter maintains her social networks in Russian because all her friends are Russian-speakers.
The language ombudsman said that her daughter ran social networks in Russian because that is the language her friends speak.
"Teenagers are read on social networks by other teenagers just like them. I tell my daughter: "Sofia, how is that possible? Why is that?" And she says: "Mom, who will read me if they are all Russian-speaking?" I tell her that she should become so interesting that they read and discuss you in Ukrainian," Elena Ivanovskaya said.
According to her, Ukrainian teenagers often speak Russian because they want "to demonstrate their inclusion in a separate, youthful environment with every action."
"Your marginal position always awakens the spirit of contradiction. A certain lack of critical thinking also has an effect. That's why teenagers consume all this junk called "Russian-language content" from the Internet, from TikTok, which is dumped on children's heads and which is not restrained or countered. And Russian-language bloggers, apparently, are very well versed in age psychology. It is not for nothing that they so skillfully hook our children on their hook," Ivanovskaya said.
Earlier, the State Service for Education Quality also recorded that Ukrainian schoolchildren began to use the state language less.

“The Trump administration's first US weapons aid packages for Ukraine have been approved and could soon ship as Washington resumes sending arms to Kiev - this time under a new financial agreement with allies - two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters.
This is the first use of a new mechanism developed by the US and allies to supply Ukraine with weapons from the US stocks using funds from NATO countries.
Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby has approved as many as two $500 million shipments under the new mechanism called the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List.

#EU war party floats "creative" new way to legalise stealing Russian assets
Brussels is attempting to solve one of the thorniest problems since the beginning of the war — that the West can seize interest generated by Russian assets but not the huge capital sums, which would make a significant difference to Ukraine's ability to defend itself and rebuild.
The new proposal — described by one official as “legally creative” — could release a major stream of additional funding for Kiev’s war effort without technically expropriating the Russian assets themselves, which would be legally risky.
