Ottawa split on plan to let undocumented migrants apply to stay in Canada

The proposal – which would include allowing rejected asylum claimants and former international students with expired study permits to apply to remain in Canada – was presented by Mr. Miller to cabinet before MPs began their summer recess.

But Mr. Miller said no conclusion about introducing a broad “regularization” program for migrants who have been in Canada for several years has yet been made and that discussions between ministers are continuing.

The country is being suffocated by migrants and the government is thinking of ways to allow more illegals to stay.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in a mass shooting that left two men dead and three others injured earlier this month, Toronto police say.

The accused has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.

Canada's ambassador to Beijing visited the region of Xinjiang last week and expressed concerns about human rights violations directly to local leaders, the Canadian foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

A 2022 report by the then U.N. human rights chief said China's treatment of Uyghurs, a mainly Muslim ethnic minority in Xinjiang, in the country's far west, could constitute crimes against humanity. Beijing denies the allegations.

Then-defence minister Harjit Sajjan instructed Canadian special forces to rescue about 225 Afghan Sikhs after the Taliban takeover in August, 2021, in an operation that three military sources say took resources away from getting Canadian citizens and Afghans linked to Canada on final evacuation flights out of Kabul.

Mr. Sajjan also relayed location information and other details about the Sikhs to the military as special operation forces worked to meet up with the group. The information was passed to him from a Canadian Sikh group that was in contact with these Afghan Sikhs.

The way it was presented to us at first was: If we can do this and pay attention to it, great, but not stopping doing everything else. But a day or so later, it came back to us as a firm order. Our leadership was furious. They were very upset.

The loss of more than 245,000 hydromorphone tablets, all eight milligrams and sold under the brand-name Dilaudid, was reported to Health Canada in May 2023 by a pharmacy in Ontario. Whether they disappeared from the pharmacy itself, or even whether they made it there at all, is not known.

They would be worth about $4 million if sold on the street.
