We are hopeful — and remain hopeful — that the new incoming administration will understand just how incredibly serious we are on this northern border.

As former finance minister Chrystia Freeland prepares to launch a Liberal leadership bid, a source close to her says scrapping the controversial consumer carbon tax will be one of her policy planks.

She is ready to make difficult decisions to meet our emissions targets and make sure big polluters pay for their outsized emissions. But she will not fight Canadians on a policy they have been clear, they do not support.

the source says.

Canada court agrees to expedite legal challenge to Trudeau prorogation of Parliament

The Federal Court of Canada granted a motion on Saturday to expedite a legal challenge to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s request to prorogue Parliament until March 24, 2025.

The Chief Justice clarified that if the hearing were to follow the Federal Court’s usual timelines, there would be no opportunity for Canada’s elected representatives to debate Canada’s next economic move. The matter would have been before the Court well after the March date, making it pointless.

🇺🇸Ads for smugglers in Canada helping migrants illegally cross into U.S. flourish on social media

Smugglers offering to help people cross the border illegally into the United States are openly advertising their services on social media. The Globe and Mail has found multiple posts from people smugglers who are promoting “safe” routes to the United States, including from Montreal and British Columbia, with some claiming there will be no police involvement or checkpoints.

Some advertisements call their work “dunki” or “donkey” services, with payment due upon arrival. The price, which is not always stated, is in one case listed as $3,500 for same-day service from Canada to the U.S., with “payment after reach.”
