Canadians have one of the most powerful passports in the world, ranking ahead of the United States in a global index. The index is based on mobility, meaning where in the world the holder of the passport can travel to without a visa.

Canada came in 8th place in the 2025 list, tied with Estonia and the United Arab Emirates. This is ahead of the American passport, which came in 10th place this year. Historically, according to the firm’s list, Canada has maintained a high ranking. Since 2006, it has not fallen below 9th place. At its peak, the Canadian passport came in second place in 2014.

Authorities say the offences happened at multiple ports of entry throughout Southern Ontario over a three-day period.

In addition to the 12 firearms, border officers also seized 18 magazines and 254 rounds of ammunition.

Almost 600 foreign nationals with criminal records due to be deported are missing

Canadian border agents are trying to track down almost 600 foreigners with criminal records who are due to be deported but have gone missing – 431 of whom have been found guilty of serious crimes such as sexual assault.

Figures from the Canada Border Services Agency show that 1,635 foreign nationals guilty of committing crimes in Canada are currently facing deportation, but 599 of them have failed to attend deportation proceedings and have been placed on the agency’s “wanted” list.

Three facing smuggling-related charges after 44 migrants intercepted in Quebec

The Canada Border Services Agency says it has arrested and charged three alleged smugglers after police in southern Quebec intercepted a truck carrying 44 foreign nationals in conditions an RCMP officer described as “horrific.”

The vast majority of the truck passengers were Haitian nationals. They told officers they had crossed the border on foot, walking for two hours until the truck picked them up.

Canadian aircraft carried out an airdrop Monday of nearly 10,000 kilograms of aid to Palestinians in Gaza as Prime Minister Mark Carney warned of a deteriorating humanitarian crisis in the region.

The Canadian Armed Forces flew a CC-130J Hercules aircraft over the Gaza Strip to conduct the drop, said Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Defence Minister David McGuinty in a statement.

Canada is intensifying our efforts with international partners to develop a credible peace plan and will ensure aid moves forward at the necessary scale.

Prime Minister Mark Carney suggested Tuesday he is considering substituting or rescinding the Online News Act to ensure local news is disseminated wider and faster two years after Meta banned access to news on its platforms.

Spanish police say they have dismantled a criminal network that facilitated illegal entry into Canada and the U.K. using forged passports and travel documents.

Canada's merchandise trade deficit widened in June to C$5.9 billion ($4.24 billion) as imports grew faster than exports due to a one-time high-value oil equipment import.

The deficit observed in June is the second highest on record after the deficit expanded to its largest in history in April to C$7.6 billion, when the impact of U.S. tariffs first started to weigh.
