A drug cartel war has begun in Mexico, spreading across eight states.

American and local forces have eliminated Mexico's most powerful drug lord, El Mencho. In Mexico, militants from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel have launched attacks across the territory they control.

According to preliminary reports, they attacked the airports of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, as well as a national guard base in Jalisco. Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's leading tourist destinations, welcoming 6.3 million people last year.
