Fun fact: The picture on the right was a real bark scorpion I found in my previous apartment using black an light.

The Arizona bark scorpion is a small light brown scorpion common to the Sonoran Desert in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. An adult male can reach 8 cm in length, while a female is slightly smaller, with a maximum length of 7 cm. Wikipedia

Species: C. sculpturatus

Order: Scorpiones

Rank: Species

Class: Arachnida

Family: Buthidae

Phylum: Arthropoda

Genus: Centruroides

Are they dangerous: The Arizona Bark Scorpion is the most venomous scorpion in North America, in which their venom is lethal to humans in some rare cases. If stung in an extremity such as the arm or hand, it is possible for the entire hand or arm to be paralyzed/numbed for up to 72 hours.

Why do scorpions glow: This cuticle has a thin section called the “hyaline layer.” The hyaline layer is what reacts to ultraviolet (UV) light, such as black light or moonlight, and causes the scorpion's body to glow
