Erich Hartmann (1926 - 1989), my father. He fought in WW2 in the German Air Force where began training at the age of 15 and became a paratrooper. In the last days of the war he was captured in Arnheim by the US Army and spent 3 years as a prisoner of war. He never told us a lot about this time, but I know that he often had tears in his eyes when he talked about this time. He was born November the After came back from Kriegsgefangenschaft he was 20 years old and he started to learn to be a Automechanic. He founded his own car workshop 1958, and worked there with my mother and 5 mechanics till the year he died.
My Dad often said:
Was heute besteht, besteht aus Ehre und Treue
Wer heute die alte Pflicht verrät, verrät morgen die Neue.
“What exists today consists of honor and loyalty
“Whoever betrays the old duty today, betrays the new one tomorrow.”
