Markus Söder on Islam:
The relationship between the CSU and Islam was and is special - sometimes for electoral reasons, sometimes because of the C in the name, sometimes because of fundamental issues such as Turkey's accession to the EU. Söder's choice of words also tended to fall out accordingly.
"Of course, anyone who comes to us and professes our values can be there. But it is also clear that our name is CSU and not MSU. The Christian image of man is in the foreground. The CSU should not give the impression that it is the rallying movement for Muslims." (2007)
