Una bambina muore, qualche decina di anni fa, pochi giorni dopo essere nata in una poverissima città mineraria dell’America Latina. Il tradimento femminile negli Usa sta diventando una valanga. È sempre esistito (non fosse altro perché i maschi traditori non possono trovare sempre concubine nubili) ma adesso, sulla base dei rilevamenti volontari, è in rapida crescita (mentre quello maschile è stabile). Vari fattori, dal reddito alla autonomia sociale e psicologica, fino alla differente organizzazione dei tempi della vita e del lavoro, oltre alle tecnologie digitali, che facilitano le comunicazioni, per così dire, rimuovendo o rendendo molto remoto il rischio dello stigma sociale, della lettera scarlatta per le donne che tradiscono.

Ma questa è ovviamente solo la punta dell'iceberg, perché sotto c'è un cambiamento profondo dell'idea che la donna ha di se stessa, e che è la cosa veramente interessante. Il tradimento è uno degli epifenomeni che aiutano a visualizzarla in maniera più contrastata, ma la realtà è che - seguendo questa intuizione - si può immaginare quanto siano in realtà cangianti e congiunturali cose che in realtà daremmo per scolpite nella pietra, come ad esempio alcuni tratti cultiurali delle personalità femminili rispetto a quelle maschili.
