Money quote: “If you’ve ever worked in IT, you know that most problems require eye-rollingly simple solutions. One, check that the device is plugged in. Two, turn the device off and back on again. Three, wiggle some things around. It appears that such thinking will fix the Hubble Space Telescope, which entered a safe mode two weeks ago after a gyroscope failure.”

Visto da vicino nessuno è normale. Alcuni anche dalla media distanza, però.

Soggetti così mi fanno sentire leggero e senza problemi di accumulo seriale

Money quote: “For Clinco, it’s always been about heat. He inherited a love of spicy food from his father and grandfather, “eating jalapeños in the backyard with them, when I was just a kid,” he says. But the idea of a sauce collection didn’t coalesce until two decades ago, when Clinco’s then-girlfriend, soon-to-be wife gifted him some novelty hot sauces. Charmed by their off-color labels, Clinco gave them a place of honor on his countertop”

Money quote: “Is female anger really always taken less seriously? While reading the book, a a member reminded me of the phrase, “When mama’s unhappy, everyone’s unhappy.” It seemed to her that, especially when women invoke their roles as wives and mothers when angry, their anger is extremely effective. — Caroline Kitchener

Rebecca Traister: That is historically the context in which women have been offered what power is on the table. Their power is within a domestic sphere, within familial relationships. But if the only way we can invoke our authority is by making a comparison to a domestic and maternal sphere, that’s a very limited scope. Part of what this book is about is the fact that women’s anger is not taken seriously as politically consequential and valid, in part because women are sucked back into a maternal or wifely aesthetic framework. And we need to understand their fury as politically and socially catalytic.”

Organizzatevi per le gite del futuro. Posti dove andare in Cina.

Money quote: “However, China has more than 100 cities of over 1 million residents, many of which remain little known to foreign travellers but boast attractions worth more attention.”

Money quote: "The work of marriage is not about whether you find and keep your most ideal counterpart. Marriage is about what you do when you discover you can be with the most perfect person for you—and still find yourself frustrated, exhausted, dragged down, and at your wit’s end."

Money quote: "I’m not particularly interested in providing a passionate defense of a multimillion-dollar corporation which — lovely commercial and positive message aside — is really only interested in using feminist rhetoric to make more money. But this kind of over-the-top response to a single advertisement is part of a broader backlash."

Buona domenica.

Money quote: “Birnbaum — a political consultant who has worked in the US, Israel, Hungary, and across the Balkans — had agreed to talk for the first time about his role in the creation of the Soros bogeyman, which ended up unleashing a global wave of anti-Semitic attacks on the billionaire investor. But he also wanted to defend his work, and that of his former mentor and friend, Arthur Finkelstein.”
