Money quote: "As a CSS lover, I've always wanted to draw them with CSS by hand. But that's never being easy. I thought using SVG might be much straightforward until I learned how to apply the -webkit-box-reflect property."

Money quote: "The core idea here is that in any real-world dataset, it is exceptionally unlikely that any particular relationship will be exactly 0 for reasons of arithmetic (eg it may be impossible for a binary variable to be an equal percentage in 2 unbalanced groups); prior probability (0 is only one number out of the infinite reals); and because real-world properties & traits are linked by a myriad of causal networks, dynamics, & latent variables (eg the genetic correlations which affect all human traits, see heat maps in appendix for visualizations) which mutually affect each other which will produce genuine correlations between apparently-independent variables, and these correlations may be of surprisingly large & important size. These reasons are unaffected by sample size and are not simply due to ‘small n’. The claim is generally backed up by personal experience and reasoning, although in a few instances like Meehl large datasets are mentioned in which almost all variables are correlated at high levels of statistical-significance."

Money quote: "The so-called “Golden Age of Porn,” which spanned the 1970s and 1980s, included the peak of Playboy and adult cinema — a time when you had to pay for your smut. As recently as the early 2000s, retired porn star Jesse Jane told GQ, fans “actually had to buy your product or DVDs.”
For a while now, though, web piracy has been eating the industry alive, and popular streaming “tube” sites for porn are viewed as parasites by many creators. In a digital landscape, conventional studio porn is all but dying. Platforms like OnlyFans and JustForFans, meanwhile, look to be on the upswing, with performers more than happy to rake in money with private, pay-only feeds: “I know people in the porn industry who have all of this content and they’re just churning it out to upwards of 5,000 fans making $40,000 a month,” Mackenroth told Gay Star News. He himself has several hundred followers on OnlyFans, which, after the site takes a 20 percent cut, means a monthly windfall of thousands. He’s putting it toward a nursing school program that starts in the fall. Once he has that degree, his sex videos “will be in the past.”"

Lettura della domenica. Sesso, attrazione, relazioni e tradimenti.

Money quote: "Even though we portray women as not interested in sex, we’ve culturally always positioned men as the long-suffering victims of monogamy — cheaters at heart, hemmed in by the bummer requirement to fuck only one person for the rest of their lives. That’s because we believe they are wired for extreme visual variety, a buffet of choices, fire-hose style seed-spraying in any and all directions, and always with as many women as possible.
But such a drive also means they’ll take it where they can get it, so if a man can at least be guaranteed regular sex in a relationship, we presume him to be happy and satisfied. Moreso than women, we seem to think, who would rather fondle a bridal magazine than a man, much less herself. Women only put out to get security, so as soon as they lock down the guy, the sex vanishes."

Vi ricordate American Graffiti? Oppure prima, i film in bianco e nero ambientati a New York?

Money quote: "In the early 1940s, at the dawn of what’s sometimes referred to as the “Golden Age” of roller-skating, rink operators struck upon a simple means of promotion: stickers. Designed in a range of shapes and colors, each sticker acted as a kind of calling card for a particular rink. Skaters would plaster them on their roller skate cases, collect them when they traveled, and even swap them with fellow enthusiasts."

E poi all'improvviso diventi tu il prodotto.

Money quote: "In the 27 states where Beam’s plans are available, the company uniquely sells a semiannual subnoscription service that consists of a Bluetooth-enabled sonic toothbrush — the eponymous Beam Brush — along with paste, floss, and refill heads. Customers optionally sync after each brush with Beam’s companion smartphone app, which spits out a grade from “A” to “D” depending on how consistently they’ve kept up with their good hygiene routines. The better a group performs overall, the greater the cost savings on their monthly premiums; top brush scorers earn just over 10% off.

It’s a clever business model; presumably, policyholders who brush and floss more often are less likely to require costly dental work and emergency visits down the line. But those who opt not to share their brushing habits with Beam aren’t penalized in any way. All payers and dependents can visit any care provider in- or out-of-network and take advantage of expedited, automated enrollments and claims processing."
