Altar to Persephone and Hades
Forwarded from lovely
Sometimes, the way in which our Gods may lead us or help us may be confusing or difficult. Sometimes, the journey to brighter days is riddled with hardship. Not all of the things we need or deserve come to us with ease. It is our duty to withhold faith and trust. The Gods of our ancestors know what's best for us if we open our hearts and minds.

Evoe! Dionysus, may you deliver us from our sufferings however you see fit.
Dionysos Dithyrambus! May you show us your mysteries!
May we dance the sacred dance, and shout EVOE! from the mountainside!
We are forever entranced by your lifeblood, savior of humanity. Protector of Women. Through sacrifice, you bring joy.

"Dionysos I call loud-sounding and divine, inspiring God, a twofold shape is thine: thy various names and attributes I sing, O firstborn (protogonos), thrice begotten (trigonos), Bakkheion (Bacchian) king. Rural, ineffable, two-formed, obscure, two-horned, with ivy crowned, and Euion pure: bull-faced and martial, bearer of the vine, endued with counsel prudent and divine: Eubouleos (Eubuleus), whom the leaves of vines adorn, of Zeus and Persephoneia occultly born in beds ineffable; all-blessed power, whom with triennial offerings men adore. Immortal Daimon, hear my suppliant voice, give me in blameless plenty to rejoice; and listen gracious to my mystic prayer surrounded with thy choir of nurses fair." Orphic Hymn 30 to Dionysus

Faun by Moonshine by Léon Spilliaert 1900

The music was bewitching, the goats followed, like the call of a siren, to where they did not know, nor to when.

They say some foreigner has arrived from Lydia:
one of those charlatan magicians
with blond hair that reeks of scent,
the flush of wine in his cheeks
and all the tricks of Aphrodite in his eyes.
Day and night he's with the women,
showing them his mysteries –
holding up his secret, for them to adore.
