'Heel Nederland viel deze week weer eens over hem heen: Memphis Depay. Dit keer was het omdat de spits van Oranje met een opvallende hoofdband het veld op stapte. Memphis werd op sociale media vanaf zijn kuiten afgefakkeld. Mensen noemen hem een aansteller. Een uitslover. Een jongen die alles doet om aandacht te krijgen. Het incident heeft zelfs een naam gekregen: Haarbandgate…
De relatie tussen het Oranje-legioen en Memphis is al jaren moeizaam. Dat begon al toen hij, net vers bij Oranje, op trainingskamp verscheen met een hoed op z’n hoofd waar Zorro jaloers op zou zijn geweest. De supporters vielen massaal over de voetballer heen. Depay moest maar normaal doen. Dan deed-ie al gek genoeg …
Niet veel later ging het weer mis tussen Memphis en de Oranje-fans. In een bericht op Instagram maakte de stervoetballer bekend dat hij een nieuwe carrière was begonnen als rapper. Critici waren er als de kippen bij om Memphis te fileren. Wie dacht Depay wel niet dat-ie was? Hij was toch echt geboren in het vredige Moordrecht en niet in een Amerikaans getto. Het was tijd dat Memphis zijn voeten liet spreken in plaats van zijn grote mond.
Maar de aversie tegen Memphis bereikte een kookpunt, toen hij een nieuwe manier had bedacht om een doelpunt te vieren. Hij sloot z’n ogen en stak z’n wijsvingers in beide oren. Zo bleef hij seconden lang staan. Zelden was het legioen zo beledigd. De snelle conclusie op de tribunes: Memphis had blijkbaar maling aan de supporters. Hij wilde zeker niks zien of horen van alle kritiek.
Nu ken ik Memphis een beetje. En het is de hoogste tijd dat mensen het bijzondere verhaal áchter het ‘enfant terrible’ leren kennen.
Memphis werd als kind heel erg gepest vanwege zijn grote neus. Klasgenootjes scholden hem uit voor ‘wipneus’ en ‘Pinokkio’. Het viel de kleine Memphis zwaar. Hij voelde zich onbegrepen en verstoten.
Als jonge twintiger - Memphis was inmiddels doorgebroken als voetballer - ontmoette hij iemand in zijn leven die hem aanraadde de Bijbel te lezen. Het boek veranderde zijn leven voorgoed. Zijn contact met God bracht rust in het turbulente leven van Memphis.
De succesvolle sportman verdiende inmiddels veel geld. En, geïnspireerd door de Bijbel, besloot Memphis een groot deel van zijn salaris te gaan gebruiken om kansarme mensen te helpen. Memphis reisde naar Ghana, het land van zijn vader. Toen hij daar in contact kwam met dove en blinde kinderen, kreeg hij een visioen. Deze gehandicapte kids werden in de harde Afrikaanse maatschappij gepest en verstoten.
Memphis zag in deze kinderen zichzelf terug: het jongetje uit Moordrecht dat werd getreiterd. Opeens had hij een missie: hij zou álles doen wat hij kon om de dove en blinde kinderen van Ghana te laten meedoen in de samenleving. Memphis richtte een eigen foundation op.
Dankzij de inzet van de voetballer hebben inmiddels vele honderden kinderen, door onderwijs en sport, een betere toekomst gekregen. Zelfs de opbrengst van Memphis’ rapmuziek ging rechtstreeks naar de kansarme kinderen in Afrika. De reden dat hij een doelpunt viert door zijn ogen te sluiten en zijn vingers in z’n oren te stoppen, is omdat Memphis dan aan zíjn kinderen denkt. De dove en blinde kinderen in Ghana.
Onwetendheid is de bron van alle kwaad, zei Socrates. Met de kennis van nu, is Memphis Depay geen irritant mannetje maar een enorme held. Een held zonder cape, maar mét hoed en hoofdband.

"Be the Calm that You Seek"

Cheryl: It is Solstice time, Guides, a high point in the year for many who are attentive to the change of seasons and the procession of planets. I sense it within me as a still point, a balancing point. Yet the world energies are dancing ~ frenetically so ~ on many levels! Navigating these not-so-still-points is akin to balancing on a razor’s edge. Will you speak to these energies and offer guidance on how to be with them?
Guides: You are indeed on a razor’s edge, Dear Ones. It is a time of choosing ~ or, rather, allowing yourselves to be led by a deep inner knowing of what is true and right.
As systems created upon faulty principles collapse, their falsity becomes more evident. As your ‘time’ progresses, more and more of what has been hidden is being revealed. And what is true about your past creations and what is true about your authentic natures will be starkly presented. This is becoming increasingly more obvious.
Those who have eyes to see, will do so. Those who do not, will not. Do not be afraid to see what is so. In spite of the discomfort, seeing clearly will serve you best.
In the midst of the challenges that may arise, we would remind you to keep your sense of humor. It ‘greases the wheels’ of connection and reduces frictions that may occur.
With the fire of Love in your heart, follow your own path founded on the truth as you understand it. Carry on and release what no longer serves you. Dream into being the world that you know is possible, the world which is rising from the rubble and compost of your past mis-creations.
You each seek a calm in the current storm. What many of you are yet to discover and embrace, is that each of you ARE the calm within the storm.
We encourage you to remain centered, open hearted, and flexible - trusting that you were made for these times. Were it not so, you would not have come. No sailor expects to avoid meeting challenges of turbulent seas! Your soul knew full well what it came to do. It is only your smaller, self-conscious part that is afraid and doubtful.
We say this not to suggest that these times are easy nor that you should move through them unruffled. Indeed, expect to be challenged by them … and rejoice!
Your true Olympic athletes train diligently and eagerly anticipate the day of testing. When each performs at their best, for the love of the sport and their desire to see what they may achieve, they are all winners … regardless of where they place in the ranking or how others judge them. Dare to know your true nature, and be true to that. In so doing, you will be filled with radiance in the fulfilling of your purpose.
Be who and what you truly are. There is no greater power than this, for who and what you are is Love. We have said many times, that the most powerful thing in the Universe is the human heart. For therein lies the Love of the Universe.
