Vanmorgen las ik een stukje tekst dat ik eerder deelde, waarin staat dat vrouwen mooier worden als ze ouder worden.

Nu, een paar maanden later, zie ik dit zelf alweer anders. We worden niet mooier als we ouder worden. Een jonge vrouw is ook mooi. En dus ‘cherry pick’ ik uit het stuk. Wat over blijft is mijn wens voor vrouwen van alle leeftijden:

Voor het eerst in de menselijke geschiedenis vertrouwt de meerderheid van de vrouwen niet langer op de afgifte van natuurlijke hormonen tijdens de geboorte van hun kinderen en de placenta. Velen ondergaan een keizersnede en de meesten die “natuurlijk” bevallen, gebruiken medicatie tijdens de bevalling in plaats van de eigen hormonen die klaar zijn om te worden vrijgegeven.

Deze medicijnen blokkeren de afgifte van natuurlijke hormonen en produceren alleen mechanische effecten. Als gevolg daarvan krijgt een barende vrouw die moeite heeft met het vrijgeven van het belangrijkste geboortehormoon, oxytocine - wat de norm is in een conventionele geboortesituatie - een intraveneuze injectie van synthetische oxytocine. Deze injectie voorkomt echter de afgifte van natuurlijke oxytocine. Daarom kan het zijn effecten niet op gedrag uitoefenen: intraveneus toegediende oxytocine stimuleert baarmoedercontracties, maar bereikt de hersenen niet en functioneert dus niet als het “liefdeshormoon”.

Deze injectie voorkomt de sterkste afgifte van het liefdeshormoon dat elke vrouw van nature tot haar beschikking zou hebben. Helaas bevalt de overgrote meerderheid van de moeders van hun kinderen zonder de effecten van de complexe cocktail van natuurlijke liefdeshormonen te ervaren.

Dit is een onnatuurlijke situatie en stelt onze hele beschaving ter discussie.

Medicaliseren kan meerwaarde hebben en levens redden, maar helaas is het in NL niet meer zo dat de natuurlijke weg altijd de voorkeur heeft, en in landen als Brazilië en de VS al helemaal niet.

Hoe we geboren worden, doet ertoe. Deel dit bericht vooral in je netwerk, om aanstaande ouders te attenderen op het maken van gezonde keuzes.
