Biden, Democrats Require Venmo, PayPal, Zelle and Cash App to Report $600+ Transactions to IRS
📡@G3News: As of January 1, mobile payment apps like Venmo, Paypal, Zelle and Cash App are required to report commercial transactions totaling more than $600 per year to the IRS.
The change to the tax code was passed into law as part of the American Rescue Plan Act COVID response bill passed in March 2021. Previously, these mobile payment apps only had to tell the tax authorities when a person had over 200 commercial transactions per year that exceeded $20,000 in total value, the IRS says.
Starting Jan. 1, 2022, the IRS says, if a person accrues more than $600 annually in commercial payments on an app like Venmo, then Venmo “must file and furnish a Form 1099-K” for them—reporting on all the commercial income they collected through the app.

Earlier in 2021, I started seeing red flags surrounding the recently popularized Matrix protocol, thanks to a series of papers done by LibreMonde. Although I shared the research, many Matrix users saw it as an unfounded attack. This lead me to find and champion alternatives like XMPP.
Now disroot, an organization who ran a Matrix server for quite some time has shut down their Matrix instance due to privacy concerns.

the reasons we decided to close our matrix instance were two:
1. the amount of enormous information that data from the users that we were forced to store (initiation and closing of session, interactions, publications and addresses exposed of users in public rooms, etc.) indefinitely and with the aggravation that the information also remains in the participating servers. and also the growing number of bots that polished mapping the network.
2. the ridiculously large amount of resources it required and increased with its use. about closing the instance, less than 100 users were costing us 5 gb of ram (not counting the branch that consumed the database) and 170 gb of space on the users information disk.
summarizing, it seemed to us that the amount of data accumulated was dangerously large and the resources dismedied for what is basically a text chat software.
We never thought that these problems were deliberately planned, but inherent in the matrix structure. And for us, they became unacceptable above all in relation to the commitment we have to the care of the information of the users.

New Hampshire's Proposes Bill to Uphold Software Freedom

In 3 days, New Hampshire will vote on requiring state run website to use Free Software:
- Specifically bans state-run websites from serving non-free javanoscript to clients
- Creates a commission to provide oversight, watching the use of Free Software by state agencies
- Bans state agencies from using proprietary software - maybe this could include schools, in the future!
- If a person is tried in a criminal case, they have the right to audit the source code of any proprietary software that collects evidence against them
- Encourages data portability (able to transfer data from one program to another)
- Bans certain non-compete clauses and NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) pertaining to Free Software projects
- Bans state/local law enforcement from assisting with the enforcement of copyright claims against Free Software projects
- Bans state agencies from purchasing non-free software if free software exists, for a given task

The reading of the bill is happening on 11 January 2022. This is when you should go to New Hampshire.

Anyone keeping up to date with the latest COVID-19 developments?
We're seeing state / media stances switch from fear mongering to questioning all the bullshit they've peddled in the past 2 years.
Why is this happening now? Do they realize that people will not comply?
We cannot get comfortable. For one, they need to address that they were completely and utterly wrong and that their actions hurt people. Second, they cannot be left in charge any longer.
I am going to continue building and supporting alternative institutions. How about you?
